Sure if you purchased the cover at the price I got....used for $200.00 Canadian! So that's about 23.95 USD. I would say its definitely a deterrent for theft and as well from ppl throwing their garbage and drink containers into the back of my truck

Agree. I’m no where near 20;mpg in the winter regardless of how conservative I drive.
Consistently did mid to high 20s with the four 2wd. 4 wd is hellacious for mileage with he drag, regardless of being two or six.

About 18/21.5 with my 2015 Double Cab Long bed V6 automatic. A light foot and the flat Texas landscape helps produce a little better than the factory numbers.

Just doing a change over to 75 s hurt my mileage slightly. It’s no wonder. Bottom exposure is nearly 60% of the air resistance. But you knew that I’m sure.

Yeah, I don't really mean just my own mileage. Some people are posting numbers that defy the EPA numbers, the fuelly stats, and those of the vast majority of taco drivers with stock trucks. I would expect my own to be a little higher than it is- I had an 08 4runner with the same engine, and almost identical mods (with the exception of e-rated tires) and it got 17-18 around town, and 20ish on the highway.

So, I do not understand. The numbers defy a lot of factors.

Is it proven or tested that these additional additives make any difference though? What is minimally required for top tier gas can already be saturating so anything above it can be worthless. It is very easy to marginally increase some additives to justify selling a product at a higher price even when it doesn’t make any difference. Keep in mind every name-brand gas station, even Costco sells gas that exceeds top tier standards. So what additional additives shell claim they have can be worthless.

IMO most people who get better mileage and performance from higher octane fuel (for 3rd gen) is probably unknowingly getting non-ethanol fuel. Some station offer premium as non-ethanol and non-ethanol packs more chemical energy for same volume. Higher octane on the other hand makes no difference for an engine that doesn’t achieve high compression.

Did you read the link I provided to the testing Shell did? While that comparison is to another premium with the lowest additives, it does show different fuel brand additives can make a difference in keeping your engine cleaner. From the AAA fuel additives testing I read, Top Tier vs. non-top tier makes the biggest difference, based on that, I think its reasonable to say that if you chose a Top Tier fuel you will get decent results. But that same study shows that not all Tip Tier fuels are equal. Compare Top Tier fuel #6 to Top Tier fuel #5 in the test results graph on page 17 (pdf page 18) - Top Tier fuel #5 has 7 times more deposits than TT fuel #6:
    https://www.aaa.com/AAA/common/AAR/files/Fuel-Quality-Full-Report.pdf
Based on the data, I agree with your inference that Top Tier fuels are possibly good enough, but do not agree with your statement "So what additional additives shell claim they have can be worthless."

Regarding mileage, I didn't say that Premium will give better gas mileage, so not sure who you are talking to there. I have seen better mileage in general using Shell mid-grade compared to regular, but I don't make the claim that my observations are proof of anything. If you read my earlier posts in this thread, you will find that I stated that ethanol has less energy than gasoline, which is pretty much known to folks here I believe. If I were a betting man, and I am, I would bet the Shell premium has less ethanol than the regular. ;)

What I meant by useless was from a functional stand point. Yes, it performs better, but does that actually make a difference in terms of engine longevity, performance etc compared to regular a name brand top tier gas. I also want to point out that the test in attached pdf the even the authors claim (page 14) results should not change with regular or premium gas. As an example, Costco claims they have 5 times the minimum required cleaning agents (in both regular and premium) while shell nitro claims they have 7 times. This means shell nitro has ~1.4 times more cleaning agents in gas than Costco. And if you look at the pictures attached by shell and Costco for intake valves, they pretty much look the same. What I argue is, does that 1.4 make a difference, especially considering the price difference.

    https://www.costco.com/kirkland-signature-gasoline.html

My comment about the mileage wasn't in response to your comment sorry about being unclear :). I read several comments about premium gas and improved mileage and wanted to clarify that.

The statement in the report "results should not change with regular or premium gas." Note the word "should" - this is not based on the tests performed and the statement is subjective, it appears to assume similar additives across all grades of fuel. The links I provided for Shell Nitro+ premium indicate that it has more additives than their lower octane Top Tier fuels, so I do not think such a conclusion is valid, at least in this case.

Actual test results, on the other hand, I do have confidence in. The links you provide to the Costco fuels do show results comparing their Top Tier fuel to an "EPA minimum standard fuel" (I believe the Shell comparison report was also to an EPA minimum standard as well). Without a direct comparison test of Shell Nitro+ to the Kirkland Top Tier premium, we don't really know if they are equal or not in keeping the engine clean. Nonetheless, they did test and looking at the photos provided, as you say appear similar to the Shell Nitro test results photos.
