The thought process was kinda the air down/up thing. for the most part.. You'd have access to a valve stem to a point, weather buried in mud or in the rocks if need be.

As for the pic. they used to make several different sizes. Not to sure if they do anymore. I chalk the pic up to non proofreading what you put out.

Hypothetical question? If I were to acquire a rear axle from a 2.5 gen OR, what are the chances of it having the same gear ratio as my sport? And could the e-locker just be hard wired up to a switch?

 

I believe all have the 3:73 ratio except the 4cyl rear which is 4:10 as far as the elocker i am sure it sould be worked out

 

Not sure on the gear ratio. This should take care of the wiring .

I will say the OR has a smaller rear so if you put a locker in the Sport or Sr5 rear it should be stronger

 

I'm gonna inquire about this. I'm pretty sure I could get a used axle housing assembly with a good discount from our used parts suppliers that the shop uses. If I could land one for around $500, I'd be willing to do it.

We just had a 2012 total loss at the shop...needed a frame. Of course, I couldn't take anything off of it. But it got me thinking

Really with these 4.0 liters and the automatic transmission, I ain't worried needing strength.

 

I wonder what the cost difference would be to install a “Harrup” e locker in the one you have? I think that’s the name of it

If it's 4x4/prerunner and the same transmission type, the gearing will be the same. I think the 4x4 ECU controls the locking diff but the logic maybe there already, and you'd just need to run the harness. But it's also possible that the connections are there and just taped back. It maybe possible to just wire up an independent switch to run it manually without the 4x4 ECU control, but I've never looked at the wiring diagrams for the locker/4x4 system.

 

You’ve already gotten your answers, but yes it’s possible. Those kits hafaday linked earlier would let you wire it in completely independent of the ecu. It has been done before, and I was looking to do the same for a locker on the cheap but then went the lunchbox route instead.
