1997 t4r has super duty axles, 5.13s locked front and rear. 3 link front with 14" kings. Rear 63s.
The thickness of the main section is 3/16. 2x3 bottom half is 2x2 same thickness and butts up the the spring hanger. Also have 3/16 plate fishpaltes on inside and outside of the frame. The new part of the frame is inserted in about a foot and a half

I’m still not getting what your laying down. Is it the mismatch you are referring to? I inspect welds for a living. I can tell you there is nothing wrong with them.

the welds are a work of art.
the mismatched frames look sketchy - but after OP posted that the smaller set is in about 1.5', sounds better.

First time doing a frame tie in and all. Didn’t really want to do that in the rear. So if someone has a better idea then let me know. I still need to add the pieces to close in the section and another crossmember

I think you're doing fine at this point. For ideas, you might want to look at @JLee 's build thread. He replaced the rear section of the frame of his 1st Gen Taco (in fact, the only original frame on the truck is the part directly under the cab) and it looked pretty stout...and as far as I know, it's held up well to some serious crawling.

Personally I would have slid the new frame into the old, put big plug welds on one side (since you 1.5 feet of overlap), pie cut the stock frame, bent it inward to match the new frame and at least made an attempt to fully weld the frames together before fish plating on top. I had to do the same thing on my front frame section when I built the truck in 2014 and have had zero issues.

someone want to finish this Cough cough @allenfab :boink:

ordered a set of lower link mounts from motobilt last year and went to start doing some link mock up and they weren't correctly bent. That was the 3rd set. Ordered from Artec and have them tacked on the axle already. Had to cut the truss off decided to cut it down. Started making the frame mounts today and almost ate transmission for dinner. Got to close to the strap holding it and it came down :bananadead: Im planning on working on it all next weekend after I do a lift install. Ill post pictures when I got something worth posting.

Mocked up and need to find a way to snake a panhard bar in. Once that’s in I can cycle it and see if I need to change anything. Planning on getting it on its weight by Monday night. We shall see if that happens

I cant tell In the pic with the idler pulley, but I never realized how much the engine moves while wheeling until I put a crossmember right by there and that pulley would hit offroad. I had to notch the crossmember out. I would make sure everything clears as that would suck to have that pulley hitting your steering in certain situations.
