Rubbing of my 285/75/16

i finally mounted my 285/75/16 and the wheels are 4.5" backspacing, i trimmed the front and no more rub, but the back is hitting the mudflaps... ive read on here that i will have to trim the cab frame to get no rub want to make sure, dont really want to put a grinder to the cab mount but dont want the rub, also if i remove the spidertrax will it rub more or less? i have a 2.75" spacer lift from readylift.

 

I put a 3" lift, 18" rims with 4.53" BS and 285/65/18 tires and removed the front mudflaps and it doesn't rub at all on the back. I just trimmed the front flare and inner fender and it's fine. I also don't have any spacers.

 

cool going to remove flaps tomorrow hopefully thatlll work i dont have a jack to try it without the spidertrax.

i just took them off but i see it rubs a little on the frame, is it safe to grind off about 1/4" from the frame and just paint it so it wont rust?

i have total chaos uca's havent installed them will that help? i already put on spidertrax in front.

 

frame? I'm assuming you're talking about the cab mount, most people chop the cab mount... I'm not exactly sure what is needed to do that, but I'm sure there is a couple write ups around here.

the spacers will probably only make it worse

 

wait!!! rubbing on the frame or the cab mounts? You can notch the cab mounts so it doesn't rub, but i wouldn't go grinding on the frame. what lift do you have? i have 285/70/17 and a 17x9 with a -12mm offset rim and mine doesn't rub one bit.

this is the after pic of the body mount chop and trimming on the inner fender well. you can also see that the inside of the fender was trimmed too.

 

have you wheeled your truck yet? I had the same setup as you and my shit would rub when going over stuff ofroad when turning.

also adding spidertrax made it 10X worse.

 

i am going up to gorman this weekend so thats why i put the 285 that i had bought a month ago. yeah it is rubbing slightly on the cab mount not frame. i have 2.75" readylift spacer, i have some total chaos uca's but dont know if that'll help i havent installed them yet.

so should i remove the spidertrax? wont that make the tires go more in and therefore more rubbing????

 

the spacers push your wheels out... so when you turn it is more likely to hit the cab mount

does it rub while driving straight?

you could always do what I did to avoid it.... get more lift!

 

i would say you def need more lift for 285's. 99% of spacer lifts aren't true to their size. you need a full 3" to have no rubbing with a 285. I did a 3" revtek kit on a buddies truck with 285's and it rubbed so i talked him into a 3" coil over kit and poof no rubbing.

 

before my spacers the tires would barley clear the cab mounts at full turn.
adding the spidertrax pushed the wheel out, but at even a quater turn the wheel no longer tucked behind the cab mount, now it rubbed on the whole thing.


think of it this way. the spidertrax sticks your wheel out 1.25 inches with the steering wheel pointed straight, turn your wheel and now those spacers are pushing your wheel 1.25 inches back into your cab mounts.

 

You should be fine with a little cutting. I didn't have any rubbing with my 285s and 3" of lift.

Yes, before you do anything else, take off the spidertrax!

a 1.25" spidertrax on a 0mm offset wheel is the same as changing to a -30mm (!) offset wheel. Think "deep dish wheels."

Large negative offset increases the radius of the arcs the front wheels swing through as the steering wheel is turned from lock-to-lock. And that will increase rubbing at the inner fender well.

So what are the spidertrax for? Well, with a too large a backspacing (e.g. factory or TRD wheels) wider than stock size tires will rub the UCA. But that can be corrected with a 1/4" spacer. Also, some folks like the "look" of the wider-track-deep-dish stance.

Bottom line - try removing the bolt on part before you go irrevocably cutting your cab mount.

And I don't understand this "don't have a jack thing." If you're gonna run off-road, you *need* to be able to change your tires.

 

what did you cut it with? or where did u take it to get done?

 

doesnt hit anything while driving straight, i trimmed both front & rear but hits the cab mount when making turns and hit a bump/dip or while going up my driveway while making a turn.

 

going to go buy a floor jack tomorrow and removing the spidertrax and putting them in rear.

 

yeah im going for my first time on saturday so going to pick up a floor jack tomorrow @ harbor freight.... plus a couple of other accessories.
