Bottom line this problem was caused by Toyota and they need to take care of it.
I’m sure by the time some cars are taken of the cargo ship, put on train cars, put on truck transports and delivered to the dealer only to have them sit in a storage before cleaned and put up for sale nobody is climbing into the back seat and checking for leaks.

Damn that sucks bro, sorry to hear. I also own a 2017 but have not received anything from Toyota. Only have about 15K miles but I’m often in snow and rain. Good luck!

Not sure if mentioned but will leave my 2 cents. Call the toyota care 1800 number and request a tow. Tell them it wont start. Dont mention the mold to them, just it won't start and needs towed on the 26th for the appointment. 2nd go out and get a sample of that mold and get it and the kids to the dr to have them treated and the mold tested.
    Good luck.

Been following since this was shared. OP that sucks man, wish you the best of luck with getting it resolved. I have an 18’ TRD OR and had to get the seal replaced a few months ago. The only reason it was caught was because I took my team out for lunch and one of the guys sitting in the back noticed my headliner was soaked. Took it into the dealer same day to get the seal replaced.

Have a 2016 and lived in one of the rainiest places in the world and never had a leak. It’s mostly luck of the draw on a leaking 3rd break light.

I think this is a big part of the issue seeing as I live in Oregon and it’s literally ALWAYS WET. a leaking truck will be destroyed rather quickly in this climate

Same with Hawai’i. My buddy got black mold after leaving his Mazda sunroof open and it could never dry out. The insurance totaled it.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
...^^^... Since they are the experts (Toyota Corp & the dealer) ... tell Toyota that you need to know that the truck is safe for you and your family to drive and travel in for prolonged period of time ... so there is no confusion later ... just ask them to please ... PUT THAT IN WRITING ... and see what happens.

Personally, I would not drive or take that truck on long trips with my family with the HVAC running and the windows closed.

You could get cooties in your lungs that would later "kill you dead" in a few years.

ask the doctor for a note that says the interior of the truck is a hazardous environment. toyota may be the authority of the truck, but they are not the authority of it's occupants.

Is the leaking 3rd brake light an issue with all the trucks. Access cabs and Double cabs?

I think it's only double cabs. my access cab didn't have cargo lights next to the high mount brake light.

Called Toyota corporate, voice my concerns and got a case number. They are in a “skeleton crew” for the holidays which sucks... headed To the dealer In About an hr.... this not having a personal vehicle is really starting to suck. I’ll update with what the dealer says when I get back.
