My dealer said Jon, you can have $1000 off MSRP for your AG TRD PRO and I said okay. When it arrived I went in and bought it.

I was talking with my sales guy and I asked him if when he loaded up his cart at Costco and got to the front of the line if he started haggling with the cashier about what price he would give her for everything. He laughed and said no, he paid the price they had listed.

I negotiated a little harder for my 2016 SR and 2016 TRD Sport but god damn, tell me what you want, I'll tell you what I'll pay and if we meet in the middle after fifteen minutes it's a deal.

    MSRP - 44,773

Roughly 11.7% off, so I think I did pretty well.

told the guy to throw in a bed mat and I’ll sign. He didn’t hesitate. Maybe I should’ve asked for more.

Good price. My 2020 Sport has almost the identical MSRP. I negotiated 6.9% off of MSRP when I ordered the truck in Sept and then I received the additional $1K rebate during delivery this week.

I received the same 6.9% discount + rebate for the manual Pro that I ordered at the same time for my daughter.

The only issue was that the manual Pro arrived in November before Thansgiving and my Sport model just arrived.

    Picked it up last night.

2020 TRD OR DC SB White - No packages (tech, premium, etc - wanted none of that)
Incl. Bed Mat, mud guards, all weather mats (couldn't ditch those, already part of it)

    MSRP 38600, paid 36000. 6.7% off MSRP.

    State: RI.

PS - this one was a surprise for me, RI hates everyone so the sales tax on trucks does not subtract the trade in. Trade was only 3.5k, but would have been nice >:| Whatever, happy with the truck and deal so I'm good with it.

Not stiring the pot because I would want a 3rd gen, but why are people paying 40-45k for Tacomas???

Its honestly ridiculous these things are going for that kind of price. You can buy a new Ram Laramie with more options than a Tacoma could dream of inside, and a 400 HP V8 paired with a ZF 8 speed for under 40 any day. (And they get the same mpg...)

I struggle with it because while I want my next truck to be a Tacoma, I could pay the same and get 2x the vehicle.

Because mine was only 36k, and can fit in a 1 car garage, and is all the truck I need. Tires, oil changes, everything will be smaller and cheaper as time goes on.

I got the trd. The SR was too "bare bones" once I actually drove them, and the cost difference between an sr5 and the trd for me was about a grand. Push button start and skid plates, not to mention locker which don't need but whatever.

I just sold my 2019 Ram after 18 months. It stickered for $53.5k, I bought it for $41k. You are correct, you can get “more” for your beginning money.

For me, I only owned mid-sized trucks early on in life. When the kids came, I went full size, it just worked better for me at that time. Now that they’re grown, I’m back to Tacoma as of 2 weeks ago and I could not be happier!

After driving a full size for close to 20 years, it is SO nice not to be bounced by every bump. SO nice to take a turn tight and be able to see everything. SO nice to fit in a lane as well as find a parking spot and not have to worry about getting dinged (as much) because the truck is so wide.

To go with your point. Why not buy an F250? You can get a much larger truck in an F250 than a F150 similar optioned for the same price and sometimes even less.

It all comes down to needs. I won’t go into the retained value thing, that’s been done to death.

    EDIT:
I also struggled with the same question you asked BTW. I’m sure many have. If my Ram were sitting next to my Tacoma right now. I have no doubt, the FOB I would grab daily would say Toyota.

Oh I am not arguing against the pros of the small truck at all. It would just be nice if they would reduce the price to increase the gap between the full size offerings, but it simply won't happen with these things still flying off the lots. There is no doubt Tacomas are the mid-size king so Toyota will continue dominating the market.

As for the ride quality I am surprised you find the Tacoma is smoother, I find the last gen Ram with its multilink rear to ride far better. The 19+ is further improved to me and just glides on the road like a Benz.

I guess I will just have to dream of these lower prices.

Congrats on the new Tacoma btw.

I have never owned a Dodge (that is what a Ram is) however I drove them a lot for work, I have owned Ford F150's a lot of my life but I switched to Tacoma for the reliability and build quality and resale value.

"Domestic" built trucks (what people believe are American made trucks) have no where near the same resale value of a Tacoma, the reliability is lower and the build quality is noticeably worse.. this is my experience but I am not alone if you want to do a google search.

"Domestic" trucks also go on sale for $15k off sticker every other month, so if you paid full price you are really going to take it in the shorts when you do go to sell it. Toyota goes on sale for $1500 off the sticker. Negotiation is the same for all brands so even with $15k off you could still negotiate a better price as those discounts come from the factory.

In-short: Tacoma is a better truck, why I bought it and I will sell it for a lot closer to what I paid.

5th gen Ram is definitely the best riding full size truck on the market but it is still full size and floaty and does not feel planted to the road like a mid-size truck. I drove the Off Road and Sport Tacoma’s and I would take my Ram over them but the Limited version is really nice and you wouldn’t miss the Ram.

The 2500HD had an incredibly planted feel. Used it to tow a 16800lb trailer with a fifth wheel and still not much floating in the wheel. Duramax life.

First, the Tacoma is in line price wise with it's competitors. Ranger, Colorado/Canyan etc. Second if you don't need a full sized truck for towing and hauling extra heavy loads, just driving around in it as many Tacoma owners do adds nothing other than more difficulty maneuvering in tight places, finding suitable parking and/or fitting into the average garage. Don't get me wrong, I've owed several full sized trucks in the past. A F150 and a Dodge and they served me well in my business because I need the capacity. But they (especially the Dodge) were very gas hungry and had all of the negatives I've pointed out. Once I sold my business, full sized trucks were a thing of the past for me and I'm on my third Tacoma.
