    Hey guys,

Just putting a question out there because I can’t find any answers when searching around.

I recently had a Compustar remote start installed on my 20 TRD sport. I wasn’t happy with the Toyota starter that comes on the new trucks... The app to start the vehicle is slow and pretty basic. Also only starts for 10min.

The issue now is i’ve lost functionality completely on starting from the app. I was hoping to keep this for when I don’t have my keys with me or when it's out of range. The app still works to lock and unlock but I get an error message when attempting to start that says make “make sure all preconditions are met and try again.”

I'll take it back to the shop that installed it after the holidays, as they said that both systems should still have proper functionality. (from Toyota)

If anyone has any other ideas in the meantime let me know!
    Cheers

Where did you have it installed? Maybe take it back... Doesn't seem like it's working right

    Is it a manual?

Make sure hood isn't popped or doors cracked open.

Also it may be that a connector came loose and fell out...have you gone offroading lately? It doesn't have to be bumpy roads either that cause this.

Does it start with the fob only but not app?

Yes it only starts with the Compustar remote. I get that error message when trying to start via the Toyota app. Locking and unlocking the doors through it works though.

No offroading, all in town/highway miles so far. Doors and hood are closed.

A connector could be loose, so i'll take it back in Jan. Appreciate the suggestions either way! Cheers

    It's an auto.

I'm guessing you guys dont typically see this issue and both systems work independently?

It happens...which means it could be a service/server interruption that will resolve itself naturally, or the smart phone module just needs to be unplugged from power and re-plugged in a minute later.

Installing an aftermarket system bypasses the starting feature of the app. It’s one or the other.

? You can definitely have both. Smart modules plug into remote starters (they are not stand alone) and send the signal to the remote starter to do it's thing. It's not a one or the other thing, it's an either/or thing. What would I know though :p

Plus he did mention that it had worked, now doesn't...

    Maybe I'm misunderstanding you?

Another thing is, if it never worked, the remote starter needs to be re-flashed to allow the smart module to communicate, which means the correct protocol needs to be set. Compustar and Drone are the manufacturers and they work off idatalink.

Enform Remote on a Lexus will not start a car with an aftermarket system. Remote communications are disabled with the aftermarket system. I deal with this almost daily. Similar system.

Ahh yes, I did miss something! I stand corrected! You can't mix and match aftermarket remote start with OEM app. Different protocols, interfaces and connections! He would need to add a Drone Mobile to his compustar remote start. Sorry about that @mmcarbo thanks for pointing it out!

The Toyota App does look oddly similar to the Drone Mobile's...hmm:

It’s strange because the shop that installed it said they spoke to Toyota and it should work.

The starter via the app did work prior to this addition.

    Thanks for the input guys.
