    .

I have run 2.0 Beta 0944 since release (4.88 87 octane performance release with GL) for over 4000 miles - base elevation 6200 ft. Tow 1700 camper over 12000 elevation passes with no issues. General driving city, local, highway and average 21.5 mpg. Not once have I ever experienced the issue you are complaining about that 'happens with all versions of 2.0.' Guess I am lucky. If I was having the issues you describe with my truck I would sell it and move on. @SpeySquatch you have this issue ?

I drive from sea level to 4000ft for work plus up and Over the passes to Tahoe multiple times a week. I have to shift to S4 every single time if I want my truck to down shift from 5th to 4th pulling the grades. This is with no weight added and pulling my snowmobile

That elevation from sea level is quite a hike. Dumb question likely but have you tried gear locking in 5th and rely on the varying torque converter lock stages? Seems like quite the hill to climb though but awesome fuel efficiency on the way home :)

I always use S mode when towing. Top gear S4 - when it wants to jump between 3 and 4 I always lock it down to 3 which keeps the rpm 3000 and above where the power is. Have to use the skinny pedal to balance the proper rpm with the gear. even when not towing I use the S mode when driving in the mountains when going up passes. No issues. Does better than my V8 Chevy did towing (same load) or not.

When towing I use S mode usually. The tune is hands down better than stock but it just doesn’t down shift to 4th

Is this tune worth the $699 price tag? I'm not too fond of going through 2,727 pages to find the pros and cons. Anyone willing to help?

Known issue, apparently to be fixed in 2.0 final. Happens with the 4.88 tune above about 60mph, and with the stock gearing tunes above 70mph. Bug that popped up when Mat softened the throttle tip-in after multiple complaints. Earlier versions of 2.0 don't have the issue.

The improvement of the tune brings the true potential of the Tacoma. I suggest you find someone near you with the tune in order for you to experience the difference.

I think a lot of people here forget that there is a reveiw thread for the tune so I don't know if anyone has posted recent reviews here or have updated their previous review, but check it out and decide for yourself as it will depend on what you're looking for in the tune. Also my opinion is the tune is absolutely worth it my truck runs much smoother tuned and is very responsive to my pedal input.

Right now, for myself, yes. I’m typing up a review of my experience for it and will add more as time goes on.

Price is the hardest part (was for me). If you can ever justify the price for your own use I say it’s 100% worth it. Without the free updates I’d have to say no since the product evolved so much from day one until now that I’d be very disappointed (from what I’ve read). Today’s version is so so much more refined and feature packed than early releases of 1.01 to 1.04. 1.05 would be an acceptable one time purchase as will 2.0 but the free updates I’d say is what makes the price tag worth it. I’m in the process of writing a review outside of this thread due to its overwhelming size of the thread to hopefully help out those who are interested in reading. It will be overly detailed so not gonna post here as it’ll be buried in 2 days and likely never seen again.

Substituting someone's opinion in place of your own research usually leads to something resembling a coin toss. Just search all of OVtunes post. I will give him credit that his post are very truthful and honest just realize he is sometimes overly optimistic on release dates and problems are sometimes reflective of his suppliers that are out of his control. There is also a thread on OVtunes reviews you can check out. My opinion, this tune is to solve drivability issues not really performance. Fixes what Toyota should have done a long time ago. If you are a reasonably patient person and want to work towards a goal of making your truck drive as well as possible the tune is worth every penny. You will have input on the tune by having direct communication with the tuner and the final product. That's not always the case. Good luck with your decision.

Might be a dumb question but I just moved to Colorado and the low level fuel is 85. Is that okay for then 87 base tune? Remember someone saying it’s fine due to the elevation?

Recently a guy that i work with bought a used 2016 OR double cab. I told him about the tune. He wanted to drive my truck (2018 OR double cab) and compare. We first went out in his. I gave specific instructions on how he was to drive, in order for him to see how different the tune would be. His truck drove much better than mine ! How can we tell if his truck already has the tune installed?

Also a chance he just has the latest Toyota tune through factory or TSB. Toyota has been working on it, slowly but surely. So, there's a chance the newer trucks do drive better than your older one. You should be able to get a TSB flashed at a dealership though.
