The 0944 build for 4.88 is also my favorite. I must have 4k miles on it now including a few trips up to the mountains. Been running the 87 tune

Ranging from: Start out slow like you are trying to maximize gas mileage (0-40mph). Start out like you are merging into traffic (0-50mph). Stomp it! (rolling 35 mph).
His truck performed significantly better in every situation. 3rd to 4th did not crash.

Looks to be behaving like it’s tuned but no way to read if it is. Let him drive yours to compare for himself. Maybe he’ll notice a difference and want the tune.

It might just be the ECU version differences. Mines a 2016, and I don't have the issues I see a lot of complaints in. Mine pulls great in those middle gears too (I am tuned, 91).

    Good morning everyone.
Hope everyone is planning to have a great holiday!
    some info:
    1. Accessory version handhelds for 16-17 trucks are functional. Run the software updater, and read your ECU.
    2. 2.0 is still actively being worked on, and will be delayed a little bit. (few reasons, 1. to go through some more data for 4.88 gears, and I need to finish writing patch code, but having difficulty at the moment due to breaking my arm.)
    3. 2018+ handheld software protocol is still being worked on. Sorry, pending update is literally any day now.
    4. We are waiting on our cable manufacturer to get the rest of the orders out
    5. Rafael will be taking over updates on zendesk until I can adequately send emails again. Some responses may come from me, but will be him.
    6. I may post here if I am unable to via zendesk. It is much easier to type out something on here 1 handed with my blackberry. (yes...blackberry phones with keyboards still exist!)

    Happy holidays. Happy tuning.

Mat on the accessory handheld do we still need to download stock tune? We spoke thru zendesk about it you said we may not have to when it's fixed.

Yea he drove my truck. Based on the difference between the two, i suggested he hold off on buying the tune. His transmission shifting was awesome!

Yes. here are my instructions (posted earlier in thread):

Got my handheld up and running last night. Currently this only works for 2016-2017 trucks. 2018+ support is TBD (waiting on firmware update from OpenFlash). Here are the basic steps:
Read OV's instructions to make sure you are an OFT owner, NOT an "accessory" owner (upgrade from flash kit to Handheld). https://www.ovtuned.com/pages/tacoma-handheld-instructions

1)First you need to download and install the handheld manager program (Called OpenFlash Manager) on your Win7/10 PC. After installation, plug in your handheld to the PC with OpenFlash running, which will auto-update your handheld to the latest firmware. https://ovtune.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/Setup_OpenFlash+Manager_1.44.0.exe
    2) Next, unplug handheld from the PC and use the OBD cable to plug the tablet to the truck to read/save OEM calibration. Read thru the Openflash instructions on OVTune's page https://support.openflashtablet.com/support/home - it mentions do NOT open or close anything (doors, windows, hoods) while you are doing this to eliminate changes of electrical interference. I personally got in the truck, closed everything, then did a two button push on the starter button (do NOT start your truck). I turned off my HVAC and stereo and all lights.
    3) On the handheld, select "read". DO NOT UNPLUG OR TOUCH ANYTHING IN THE TRUCK while this is reading. Mine took 5 minutes. Bring your cellphone to keep yourself entertained.
    4) Plug handheld back into your PC to save this OEM calibration for backup. I created a new folder in my documents for all the tunes.
    5) Email Zendesk which ECU calibration you have currently installed (mine was 04B04) and if you are running their dump pipes or not. They will they forward you the proper tune files (in my case, 87,91 and 91 performance). Download the tunes into the folder you created for the original base tune.
    6) In OpenFlash, select upload, then upload the tunes provided by OVTune in the free / empty slots.
    7) Plug the Handheld back into your truck (same procedure as step #3 above) and then select "write", then select the tune you would like to be installed on the truck. Once it has finished, follow the instructions on the handheld (turn truck off for 20 seconds, don't touch ANYTHING) then turn on the truck and let it idle for 60 seconds (don't touch ANYTHING). Turn off your truck one last time, and now you are good to go!

I've put about 30 miles on the 2.0B 87 tune so far, and it is miles above the OEM tune. I love how it can accelerate between 1500-2500 rpm thru the gears and you actually get to feel some low-end torque. Shifts seem nice and crisp so far. I will try the long uphills tonight to see how it does, but so far it has made city / suburb driving much more enjoyable. I don't notice much difference at full throttle but it has made low-medium throttle much more comfortable. I can finally get on the highway without revving to 5,000rpm.

I gotta tunes 2017 OR going into the dealer tomorrow. It’s got the old ECU code so I can’t try out the 2.0 betas. Verifying that I don’t have to revert it to stock and what specifically should I ask to get the updated ECU so I can run the beta files

You’ll likely have better luck doing it yourself with Techstream or having somebody around you from the forum do it... there’s a list of volunteers that are happy to help. You don’t have to flash back to stock wether you have the dealer do it, or you do it yourself. If you want the dealer to do it, print out the TSB and tell them you experience the symptoms when driving at altitude, that way they can’t say “we couldn’t replicate the issues you claim” without driving it up to the mountains. Unless of corse you live at altitude...

Yes we are aware of this on the betas.

we explained in here iyt was one of the only ways, at the time, to make the truck stay in 6th without overly downshifting.

    Its changed in 2.0 final.

The latest betas released are a few months old now, so lots have been done behind the scenes from data on those betas

This is actually one of the most annoying things about the truck. Going in 6th gear, press the gas pedal further and further, nothing happens, then BAM 3rd gear redline, hard shift into 4th. I started shifting the gear lever into S4 at every hill. Mats on it so lets see how it goes in 2.0

This TSB specifically mentions the problem happening at altitude.
