This is that brief moment where I see Cruella as an attractive and rather milfy cougar, and not the rather unattractive, fur-obsessed sociopath she really is...




Even today, the UK probably has among the highest concentration of manual transmission vehicles per capita of any nation in the world!

In true British fashion, Cruella really knows how to work that clutch...




Cruella’s car is shown to have some sort of limited-slip differential...

 

Cruella pretty much totals her car with one mash of the accelerator...

 

Look at the size of that V8!

 

It is in these final moments of the car’s life that it appears to be a roadster with a removable hardtop...

 

Jasper begins his ill-fated attempt to give the truck driver “a bit of a nudge, and shove him in the ditch!”

 

Horace’s attempt to intervene results in the transformation of Jasper’s truck into what could quite possibly be England’s first driverless vehicle...

 

Seconds before the crash...

 

The moving van gets away completely undamaged, with all 101 “Labradors” completely unharmed in the back..

 

A high-speed crash in which both vehicles involved were completely obliterated, and nobody was wearing a seatbelt, yet everybody walked away unharmed...

I think these three should have given up their lives of crime and played the lottery!

 

I am happy to announce that the direct-to-video sequel is listed on IMCDB and there are some pretty good pictures of Cruella’s shoddily-repaired car on there, so I will be posting those next! This means I won’t have to take pictures of the screen when I watch the movie tonight!

 

101 Dalmatians: Patch's London Adventure, was released in 2003, a full 42 years after the original. As far as Disney's direct-to-video sequels go, this one is not that bad, but the while the animation is good it is obviously different from the original. Also, a lot of the voice actors from the original film were retired or dead by the early 21st century; Cruella is more of a tragic villain than the vindictive, sociopathic bitch (that is a compliment) she was in the first film. Also, at the end of the original film, Cruella's car about as destroyed as a car could get without being crushed into a cube, fed through a shredder, and melted into molten steel...

In the sequel, which take place months after the original (presumably the spring of 1962 given that the original ended on or just before Christmas), Cruella's car is severely battered and probably still would have been totaled, but it's still somewhat drivable; Cruella has been banned from purchasing furs as a condition of her punishment for her crimes in the original film, and in this scene she is sadly trudging back to her car after being denied entry by the owner of a fur shop...

 

This is also my favorite scene in the movie...

Cruella remarks "How could things possibly get any worse?" before turning the ignition key. The car rumbles to life on the first turn of the key, which is amazing considering how badly damaged it is, and the radio comes on; Roger's song "Cruella De Vil" comes on the radio, which enrages its namesake; Cruella begins violently kicking the radio until it dies and falls out of the dashboard (The radio has only one speaker in the center of the dash, and it is presumably an AM radio since this is the early 1960s)…

 

The car begins to spontaneously shed random parts, and belches out an ominous cloud of black smoke, as Cruella pulls away from the curb...
