When I told my buddy Tyler who works as a tow truck driver for a service station, about the details of my new job, he hit the nail on the head when he said it was a “kid’s job”...

The most obvious clue was that most of my coworkers were in their late teens and early twenties; All of the older guys who weren’t supervisors had been there for years and had quite a bit of tenure, which meant they’d gotten numerous pay raises and could take days off at a time with no questions asked. Most of my coworkers could detail circles around me!

A good friend of mine quit his job as a mechanic to drive semi trucks for a living, and one of the reasons he gave was that he hated working on vehicles other than his own...

True story: I was able to get out of working a 9-hour shift one Saturday in October 2018 because we’d just found out that Mandy had congenital renal dysplasia and I was absolutely devastated; I later felt about bad and ended up going into work anyway, albeit about four hours late...

I was chatting with my friend from Hong Kong the other night about disc brakes vs. drum brakes...

He (my contact in Hong Kong) believes that the reason my rear brakes are squeaking so badly is because they were not properly “arced” at the dealership; I will definitely NOT be going back to the dealer for anything other than recall work, not even state inspection!

If my mechanic Pete has the means to arc the shoes, I will be bringing the truck to him after the holidays!

That doesn’t make sense to you?

Like other people said it sounds like the brakes weren’t properly adjusted after installation; The only reason this is on the back burner right now is because it isn’t a safety issue...

Neither had I; Keep in mind that my friend is British, and British English is a lot different than American English in many ways!

For example, fanny means butt in America, but in Britain and certain parts of Asia it’s slang for a woman’s lady parts! :D

He refers to my Tacoma as a “lorry” sometimes. Lorry is British English for truck, though it generally refers to a commercial truck and not a pickup.

He also taught me how to say Rolls-Royce in Cantonese!

Also, I don’t think I have an accent, but my friend says that just like he has an obvious British accent when I hear him speak, I have a unique “American” accent when he hears me speak...

Of course you don’t; Another American wouldn’t think a fellow American had an accent either, at least not if they’re from the same area; People from New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, Texas, the Dakotas...

They all have obvious regional accents; Same with individual cities like Chicago, and specific regions like the South.

What’s this “unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups” bullshit?

Also, we’ve had some snow on the ground at Christmas, but I can’t remember that last time we had a genuine “white Christmas”...

2015 was our last Christmas in the townhouse in Furlong; My aunt, uncle, two cousins, and their dog spent that Christmas with us. That was the first and so far only Christmas I remember using the air-conditioning in the house!

In this area of Pennsylvania, we generally start using the A/C in the house regularly
in April or May, use it everyday from May to the beginning of October, and stop using it completely before the end of October. Occasionally, there might be an unseasonably warm day in March where we use the A/C at least once, and it’s perfect because it gives us an opportunity to make sure nothing is broken.

Around Christmas in 2015, it was at least seventy degrees and oppressively humid, so we turned on the central air in the house! Again, that was the first in the history of forever that we ever turned on the A/C in the house at Christmas!

At the opposite end of the weather spectrum, we got a freak snowstorm in October 2011, just days before Halloween!

Fan belt has been replaced at least once; I know it was after the stereo install in April 2013, but before the drunk driver hit me in October 2015; This puts the replacement somewhere between 30,000 miles and 50,000 miles...

I had it done at the dealer, but I don’t remember paying a ridiculous amount of money, which means that either it was done under warranty or it was one of those rare times when the stealership was feeling generous (it has been known to happen). I had it replaced because it started squealing constantly, and an inspection found it to have some fraying and/or slack. About 60K miles later, it seems to be squealing again; However, it only does this on startup and goes away after the truck has been running for a while...

The radio starts playing “Cruella De Vil”...

    6D060532-B868-4408-8D60-F61AD9FC8E0D.jpg

Cruella takes out her frustrations on the car radio...

    288DE289-3B52-4C90-AD54-524B6342C6EE.jpg 708A5A5B-BE33-4A0A-A319-736C4A1B3B24.jpg

Cruella actually refers to herself as an “overfinanced heiress” in the sequel, so I don’t understand why she doesn’t buy herself a new 1962 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II or something; Her probation says she’s banned from buying furs, but not from buying a new car!

At least a 1962 Rolls-Royce had air-conditioning and power windows as an option!

This is a 1965 Silver Cloud III (production of the Cloud II ended in 1962 and the Silver Cloud III was 1963-1965); This car is incorrect, but the color combo is totally Cruella...

This one is also incorrect, but still looks like something Cruella would drive...
