Anything welding

Yeah, the slag tends to be pretty light, too, at least for me. I bought a slag hammer back when I first started, and I'm pretty sure I've never used it. It's easy enough to scrape with a wire brush. For most of the inside corners on my bumper this is all that would work.

The other thing is I've never run into duty cycle issues, at least I've never had my machine shut off. I try not to let too much heat build up in my pieces, so I'll do a couple inches here, move to the other side, do a couple there.

I learned my lesson when I did my bumper. Spent too much time on one area and let heat build up and warped it such that I had to cut off one of these vertical plates and re-weld it because the piece it mounts to had warped during final welding, so the bumper didn't fit on the winch mount anymore. Was a total PITA.

 

Yea when I was doing my axle swap and welding 3/16 most of the day, I found out my 140 didnt like temps in the high 80s and would be shutting down on me. Good excuse to not work on it that day LOL!! Other than that I would only notice the arc getting a bit weaker towards the end of the bead if I was running it for a while.

I was welding on my skids when it was 103 and mine didn't seem to care. I had to stop because *I* was being a little princess.

 

Yea it's a bitch when it comes to heat just like its owner!! It would be ok it I pointed a fan at it, but then I was sucking in fumes and hot so I just dont weld when it's that hot out instead... problem solved!

Is that 14% himidity?!?!? Jelous, it's usually 60%+ around here year round, sucks!

 

Yeah, the "dry heat" is a total cliche, but it's pretty true. I mean, it's like sticking your face in the oven, not a sauna.

When I built my shop, I put an A/C unit in the wall, and insulated and rocked all the walls, but it took me so long to actually finish it and move stuff in, I'm kinda regretting not getting one of the units with a built in heater, too. It's a frigid 45 degrees now, lol

I would have no issues giving him a quote .

In this day you go to the local tank wash have it washed out no worse then trying to weld on those Aluminum Trash trailers .

 

I don`t care I still don`t care for self shielded wire I know it must have gotten better since my bad experiences in the late seventies .

I don`t have a problem with using a Gas shielded Flux wire I used quite a Bit of Verti core back in the day.

Want Hotter output run straight CO2 all depends what your doing I asked for straight CO2 when I was do Mack Trucks Warranty work on the Road

 

My biggest worry is how much future, non septic work you have now missed out on. Do you think he will call your or the guy that he hired to do the cutting on the shit hauler?

He can call the other guy. I work 83 hours a week now at two jobs. I don’t take on many side jobs anymore.

 

Flux core is inferior to solid wire when it comes to working a small trucks like ours. It doesn’t have to be inferior due to lack of penetration. It is a usable process but that doesn’t mean it’s an equal process for this job. Just like it it’s a better process for some structural work.

if I was gonna run flux core it would be dual shield

If by inferior you mean "messy", then sure, it's a little more messy, but there's no real difference in the welds.
