It was my AC compressor clutch pulley bearing that shit the bed...well was about to shit the bed anyway. Wasn't a dire issue like I thought but getting it fixed anyway since its cheap. It's wobbling around probably got toasted when I dunked it underwater a few weeks ago

Look to see where the seal has been wearing on the axle itself. Should barely be able too feel like a ridge or something. I like to move the seal slightly so it contacts the axle at a new part of the wear surface

Sounds right to me. Have them save the old so you can replace the bearing in it and keep as a spare. The pulley and contact surface themselves rarely fail. Then you can have one always rebuilt and ready:cool:
    At least that's what I think I'd do:D

The guy also told me he thought my fan clutch was going bad but that was installed maybe 2 years ago. When spun by hand it didn't move much, said it should move freely. But my understanding is that after shutoff when the engine is warm the fan is supposed to have resistance right? Should only move freely when it's cold? I'll have to try it again tomorrow morning and see if it's different.

Anyway not having him do any work on that, just the ac bearing. I have zero overheating issues at all and if my fan clutch wasn't working I suspect I would be

The fan clutch should have resistance when warm. Cold it should spin relatively freely.

That's what I thought thanks. I'll check it when cold but I think it's fine

Old trick when it’s cold is to fill newspapers up and see if you can stop the fan when it’s cold

the fan clutches are technically rebuildable too... Toyota sells the shit to rebuild

My uncle works with Denver rescue mission and they have a program where they help people get clean, teach them skills, etc to be able to get jobs that allow them to support themselves. At the end of a couple years in the program they give them an older vehicle that was donated and went their mechanic program.

I asked if he would be interested in donating to them since they would throw a JY transmission in it and give it to someone and he said it was stupid idea and they deserve a better car than a 2003 Outback. I was like... "someone who used to be homeless and doesn't have a car?" And he was like "yeah I'd be pissed if that was all I got"
