I got a camper shell on my 2018 Tacoma used 6 months ago. I initially remember the lock working properly, but I haven’t needed to lock my camper shell until I moved to Oakland. When I lock the shell, it is locked the first time I try to open it. The second time, it just opens right up. Video below demonstrates my issues. Any idea on how to fix it or should I just take it to snugtop?

Could just need to be lubricated.

Which part? Should I open the handle up to lubricate it?

Your video is unavailable. If you have the Prolock, my dealer beat it over my head to close the lid at the lock only and using only 3 in 1 oil directly into the keyhole. I am not sure if that will resolve the issue or you simply have a defective lock.

I had the same problem! Snug Top Rebel, with an auto lock. Auto or manual using the key, the handle mechanism is the same. The ability to lock was intermittent. Not very assuring. I decided to go ahead and replace the handle assembly. Upon removing the old handle assy, I noticed a pice of metal that had become dislodged and interfering with the locking pin. ( the smoking gun.) After removing the metal part the lock did not work at all, the locking pin just freely moved from side to side with no control. I Replaced the handle assy. ($112.) And now working like a champ. Changing the handle was not difficult. Also you can order with key code to match your side window handles if so equipped.IMG_2563.HEIC.jpg

This might be my problem too. I have the same system and as of today when I lock I can see the little plastic sliding part click over, but it doesn’t seem to push whatever pin it’s supposed to so the handle is able to still turn freely and the hatch can be opened no problem. I go to try the key and it won’t go in all the way let alone turn or lock manually. It was working fine the other day!

I called my local cap dealer and they’ll let me take it in next week, just a little irked that I can’t seem to get working myself

Oh awesome, now is there a way to have it keyed to a different key code or to my existing one? Seems like it’s pretty easy for folks to buy online and go around unlocking shells lol
