Took the truck to a brake shop because I wasn't able to get my drums adjusted properly by myself, figured it would be easy for someone that works on brakes all day.

After my install the drums would be 250 and 70F after a short drive. Now they're 450 and 250F, and the hotter one smells very hot. I'm guessing these temps/smells are not normal. Time to take it to my normal mechanic..

I’m planning on pulling the heads and inspecting everything. Was initially thinking of swapping the engine rather than tearing it down. I’ve seen people do both with a blown head gasket. I’ve never pulled heads before. But since the trucks no longer my DD I can take my time.

Got a Teflon acrylic coat on the paint today. It's overcast so you can't see the shine but it looks brand new.

Thanks! I get it done once a year at a local detail shop. They do a great job, and it's worth the 200 bucks - protects against the harsh UV we have here.

Well I ended up buying a 2017 TRD Sport for a pretty good deal. The motor in my 96 has a blown head gasket and it would be smarter to replace the motor but I just don’t gave the time to do it. I have a guy interested in the truck and I threw out the number of $2k but now I’m second guessing going that low

What's the going value for your truck in running condition? Subtract the average cost of a head gasket repair and start there, gotta be higher than $2k I would imagine

Hard to tell because locally not many locally and those that are for sale are rusty and around $5k. Head gasket fix from Toyota would be around $2500. I do have about $1k in bumpers and racks on the truck as well.

Does it protect the plastic trim as well?

No, that is done with Mothers Back to Black or similar trim conditioner and a lot of elbow grease. I'm not entirely sure what product they use for the trim, but it lasts for a few months.

Got it. Do they wash and wax the car and then add that coating?

They wash it, then clean the paint with detailing clay, then polish, then apply the coating instead of waxing. The worse condition the paint is in the longer it takes to restore it, so it's best to stay on top of it.

    Everything but the driveshaft. B03A - 410
Bought seats and console from a rolled 2002 4 door TRD same color. Just finished cleaning giving them the Rug Doctor Jr. treatment. Luckily the weather has been unseasonably warm. If I set them out in the sun tomorrow, they might dry.
