I can help. What have you done maint wise to your truck? What makes you think the hesitation is trans or axle related? Has you exhausted any other means of diagnosis?

 

I had a big cab mount chop, and they still rub everything. UCAs, LCAs, frame rail, fender liners, mud flaps, & fender flares. I am sure they would rub the hell out of a stock bumper, but i have an aftermarket one, so theres nothing for it to rub on that

 

That makes sense. I think me and the @MattCowsmasher determined that if I wanted NO RUB, NO CUTS with my current 3", I would need to stay below "33".
I think on a 17" that relagates me (by the TW calculator) to 275/70/17 (32.16), or 285/70/17 (32.71). Currently, my 265/75/16 yield (31.65). I'm told actual size on the ground is less.

At 17in 255/80/17 wouldn’t require cutting maybe some plastics depending on wheels. But 285/70/17 most def will need a cmc at least.

 

Ah - that one calculates at 33.06, but the WIDTH is -10 mm less. I need to consider both, don't I?

I ran 255s on stock rims not rubbing and these ones, 285s rubbed everywhere.

255s fit better but 285s look better.
I really liked the skinny tires but on a 9in rim they just lose to much height.

 

@Oldie2007 you would be proud of me. I cut the grass and trimmed the shrubs at my parents house, took only 2.5 hrs!

Ok, guys, here's the scoop. But it's SECRET! See, there were these FJ wheels on FB, and they are the 17/7.5 as in Roberts photo. When the guy nicely said no to my offer of $300 instead of $400, I said thank you for your time, Merry Christmas. Two hours later, he messaged me back and we had a deal. So, at the moment, I have these:


I thought that price might be good enough, that @LostHusker might want them to powder coat. But I find powder is ~$100 a wheel, plus custom paint for bronze most places. I have a feeling that's more than he wanted to pay for these.
I tried to find anodizing, which can be done for less, but hard to tell with their sites. But you know what, I LIKE these as is! They are like 8 hole Ray 10s! And I won't find those for $300. So, I'm looking for a size that fits, and wait for a Discount Tire sale (or if the TW contact has a good price).
So, that's why all the questions! See?
