    Hello everyone,

A friend of a friend is interested in selling a 1st gen double cab that I know is badged as being supercharged. Is this rare/interesting enough to dig into or are those common? He’s not looking to get much for it so I was hoping you guys might know what I should be looking for.

I sold my 2002 xtra cab in the spring and would be interested in getting another one, especially if it was a rare/desirable and I could get a great deal.

Can you do the maintenance your self? If yes then maybe.

Yes, I can wrench. I come from the Volvo world and do my own work mostly.

I am primarily curious if this a unicorn that I should jump on before people find out and it disappears. For example, for Volvo people a yellow T-5R Estate an enthusiast might buy sight unseen just for the chance of owning one.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Perhaps, unmolested. However, not a unicorn and doesn’t have any rare collector value.

Supercharger was a dealer-installed option. It's not a completely different beast, as was the T5R with Porsche DNA.

Not super rare, but it’s a damn good buy if its the right price and all the maintence is up to date. They’re a ball to drive

If the price is right any Tacoma is worth buying

Let most trucks always a bunch of maintenance to catch up .

Miles and how well it was maintained

150k and two owners, from the outside it looks decent but certainly no garage queen. I cant speak to the maintenance history at this time.

    This.

But @Andre3MC you failed to mention a price and whether it's a 4x2 or 4x4.

You have to determine if the truck is worth it to you to buy, not us.

Otherwise no, the truck isn't rare.

There's a supercharger for 1800 in the marketplace. If you want, I can buy it and toss it in my truck and sell it to you after I list it as Rare.

Supercharged Tacomas are fun but they require more careful maintenance and upkeep than a non boosted Tacoma. Without detailed service history and/or owner's log of what's been done I would be very wary. You can really shorten the lifespan of these engines with boost if you don't set it up properly.

They sell 'Supercharged' badges at AutoZone. Toyota never installed them.

TRD offered them back when they sold the superchargers. Didn't come with the kit but you could order them separately. @1997tacomav6 has them too

Well of course you should be interested!!!!!!!

Like others have said though, definitely get those maintenance records, and even take it to an indy mechanic (preferable one who does Tacomas) and get them to run through it (compression tests, all that stuff).

That said, even if it is just a sticker and not a real supercharger, I'd still be interested if the price was right.

I’ve owned two supercharged Tacoma’s. My first one was a 2000 xtra cab 5 speed, and my current one is an 04 double cab. The 2000 had gray S/C with a 7th injector kit, underdrive pulley, headers, and a cat back exhaust. Even though it was lifted on 33’s with winch and armor and 4.56 gears, that truck would give a Nissan 350Z a run for its money. My 04 has a black S/C with a cat back exhaust and a trans cooler. It’s not as quick but still enjoyable to drive. I’d definitely do it if you have the opportunity
