Any advise on cleaning up the machined finish on the lip?

It was similar to a tw express situation. They were listed as new takeoffs 0 miles no scratches and 0 miles maybe true but no scratches not so much (pictures are similar across all 4 wheels).

Anyone powder coat the T4R Trail wheels in either a copper or bronze colour ? I've been searching with no luck for some pics.

I have a set of the newer style with the black accents and seeing as its winter and the weathers shit I thought I'd get my wheels repainted & or powder coated. I'd just really like to see a pic if anyone has done it yet.

    Cheers

Wanted to thank you for clarifying and add to my story.

since finding out they are coated I could find the best, I could research, method on removing the scratches around the rim/lip. Treat it same as paint/cc. I started with some simple meguiars ultimate polish which did help but wasn’t quite abrasive enough. I also wasn’t doing the traditional circular motion of application. Since the lip/raw silver color is machined leaving that lined effect I rubbed with the grain. I then picked a pretty bad spot after the polish and went over it will the ultimate compound and I’d say it removed 99% of the remaining scratches. I need to get better hand applicators before I continue but at least I know now with a little bit of work they will be almost like new. Was even thinking if I should buy the professional grade compound/polish (the meg mirror stuff)?

after seeing a f/s post here of wheels and the picture had a foam protector sheet for the face (in the trd box) I come to the theory these were more than likely new no scratches 0 miles. But when the foam sheet wasn’t saved to protect the face on these and boxed up and moved around on top of each other exchanging hands before getting to me the cardboard was just rubbing the lip (which is the highest point on these wheels) also if I’m not mistaken the trd wheels are x7 not x7.5 right? which would make these boxes technically slightly small. All of that can easily explain the current condition- so moral is save your foam sheet protectors

I’ve been floating around the idea of a bronze dip that I currently have in a box. Then I got the not so bright idea that I might try and tape off everything but the machined finish and paint that bronze leaving the rest black.

I thought I seen a picture of these in this thread in a bronze color.

4runner trails are 7.5" wide. the scratches are probably barely noticeable from afar, I bet....it bothers you because you know it's there (i have the same issue). Hand application usually just fills in the scratches with product and will likely show again after a few washes. if you really want to get the scratches out, you'll need a machine, which comes with it's own inherent risks (burning the coating, for one).

That's exactly what I'm thinking of doing.... but I can't find a pic anywhere there was one on TW but it's the whole wheel done. It doesn't look bad but I do like the idea of the black and bronze contrasts.

I know the t4r are 7.5 I was thinking the pro wheels that came in the box originally was possibly 7 which explains smaller box and then my theory on the cause of the scratches- completely over analyzed this

from a few feet away i couldn’t see them but your right I know they are there so it bothers me. I sure hope it’s not just filling in the scratches, it does look good after so hopefully it’s not just lip stick. That’s the reason I was doing by hand because I didn’t want to risk more harm with a machine. Once I get them finished by hand I’ll make the appointment to get installed and be revisiting this thread with results

That’s the one I seen with the whole wheel. I think it will look really good with bronze on just the spokes (have also thought of making the lip black instead of bronze) but it’s a lot of taping and that’s when the ocd will kick in.

Finished compound/polish of all the machined finish and definitely got 99% of it out (can’t even tell) just hope it lasts :fingerscrossed: @the_dau i did wash it once just today with meguiars plus because when I went to get them installed the guy I trust wasn’t working like I was told so I asked SA who’s the next he would trust (don’t trust the next in line FYI) I inspected the wheels and sure shit there are now scratches again (and yes they are new). It wasn’t nearly as bad as before or when they damaged my stock sports wheels (enough for them the replace all 4). So I said f it and I’ll do the compound/polish again. There is 1 spot that got scratched on the black paint but it’s only about a 1/4 or less. Still I should of left and rescheduled when the other guy was working. So I washed them up real good to get a better look and I should be able to get the new scratches removed… and again hope they aren’t just filling in since I am doing it by hand.

didn’t realize how bright they are (compared to the stock sports). Definitely going to dip the lip gloss black to match the bLack there, leave the spokes for now and eventually dip the spokes this brass monkey bronze to see how it looks.

I was worried about too much poke with this wider wheel from stock and the 1.25 spacers but it doesn’t look like much more than it was before. Picture taken at angle for effect- it really doesn’t stick out much from the fender, I personally don’t like a drastic poke (makes it look like a toy truck whereas a lil poke has that bulldog stance)

So I came across a good deal on some 17x8 inch version of these wheels. Does anyone know if I need spacers or anything like that? Also what are the biggest tires I could get to fit with stock suspension? I am thinking of wild peaks or ko2's.

But isn’t it technically only 17x7.5

To be honest I am working off a picture. Haven't purchased then yet but I am trying to do some research before hand.

I’m not sure the points of measurement. Maybe it’s technically inside lip to inside lip and not outer. You said “version of these wheels” which kind of sounds like a clone/knock off. These oem wheels are 17x7.5 and have 2 color options- older, I believe 16s +/- are machined with a greyish paint and the newer 18s +/- are machined with a black gloss paint. I’d make sure it is truest an oem wheel if you have doubts. Also know light scratches in the machined lip/spokes can be compound/polished out with some work (I had to do this and was successful- now they look brand new)

I know the person I would purchase them from... and it would be off a 19 4runner. So what's the largest size tire that I could fit on them with a stock suspension without rubbing?

265/70/17 is the largest on stock suspension without rubbing.
