The upside for the Tacoma is in 10 years it will be worth $20k+ and a Ranger will be about $12k. So you can lose money now on a Tacoma, or lose it later on a Ranger.

I just bought a truck and resale is not a factor. I've had trucks, jeeps, hatchbacks. The whole bit. I loved my hatch, but within a year I wanted a truck again. I don't foresee wanting a bigger truck as a daily. So I was coming in drive until it does mentality. If I get 500 bucks scrap at the end of its life I'll be happy.

And both trucks I have confidence in making it the long haul. For all the downsides the Tacoma has, I still bought one.

That being said when the 4th gen comes out with hybrid, I am going to test drive one and see how I like it. That might be enough to entice me away, but that's about it.

Removing a wheel or removing a skid plate, Both suck IMO. The 2nd gen has it hands down for oil change. WTF was Toyota thinking with this stupid location change.

    Still stock completely capable!
It’s a funny line for me. I love the idea oh a hybrid but I want older vehicles with less safety stuff. Even thou I do love my adaptive cruise. And not to lie the front sensor has warned me of traffic stopping fast once when I was tired 1/2 paying attention. But I don’t want anymore than this and Toyota keeps adding more and more safety stuff which is great but I don’t want anymore. But 40+mpg in a taco would be amazing!

I'm pessimistic about their mpg in a hybrid. But, by that time, 40 on a Tacoma might be doable.

I just got a 2020 TRD OR with no packages (tech with the blind spot, etc). I like where it is. I like adaptive cruise that was actually a deciding factor in not getting the frontier. I like that the lane keep is just an alarm and won't jerk the wheel back. Sometimes I'm smarter than the car (work zone, etc) and don't want it to jerk me into a construction barrel.

True resale is really nice. We will see how that factors down the road. Surprisingly the F150 is in top 5 of holding there value which makes no sense to me.

I don't think resale will be a problem as trucks hold their value in America...of course if the 2.3 Ecoboost winds up being a turd after 100k miles that could change.

Get you a pro skid plate. It's got a trap door for the filter. Makes it super easy.

Of FFS, now removing 4 fucking bolts on the skid plate is as bad as jacking up the truck and removing a wheel?

...and are we still bitching about oil changes on the third gen? As far as oil changes go, this is nothing - skid plates and all.

Pro skid plate here. I remove the access plate and tonne easier vs. the stock plates.

It amazes me that people bitch about changing the oil on these things. Do it on an R53 Cooper and you'll learn the new meaning of fuck if you break the drain back valve off.

Next person who spouts off about the how hard oil changes are on the Tacoma can come and change the oil on my wife's 2018 T4R.

    Squawk! THREE skid plates!

    Squawl!
    The same filter setup.

    Mewl!
    Less ground clearance.

    Waaaah!
    6.6 quarts, how do I measure 0.6?

The Tacoma is garbage. It does this thing where after driving it around for a while I have to refuel it. Terrible design. Should've bought a Ranger.

If I’ve learned one thing on TW I’ve learned that the 4Runner is a superior piece of machinery.

Slow, underpowered, inefficient, lacking standard features but it’s made in Japan and it has the 4.0 boat anchor under the hood so we must all suck the tail pipe of it in awe.

Its so awesome that you have to remove three fucking skid plates to change the oil yet NO ONE COMPLAINS.

    I'd never want one.

I thought the 2nd gen 4Runner was as sexy as it got
