There's a Car Porn thread on here...

Maybe someone should start a Guitar Porn thread if it hasn't been done?!?! Some of the guitars I've seen and photographed would make you guys drool!

Good guitars. Tom Petty played one. I’ve never owned one, but they are nice guitars.

Apparently the Beatles used them too; My friend Dave plays a Rickenbacker. He's also got a Hoffner "violin bass" (also played by the Beatles; George Harrison I believe?).

Thanks man! I grew up watching The Song Remains the Same over and over and over. It cemented the Les Paul as “the guitar” for me.

Paul McCartney played the Hofner Bass. And now that you mention it, I think George played a Rickenbacker.

Solid choice man, they are great sounding axes.

Personally i prefer strats or teles, the feel and the sound for me works perfectly.

This is a pic of a guitar that my coworker just got. Its similar to a tele soundwise, beautiful guitar.

I got mine online for $80.44 and free shipping, and the difference in clarity is amazing.

    OK man, you pushed me...

    Back OT...

I upgraded the front doors to the Kicker KS 6x9 and found a major improvement in sound quality. The Sirius XM was MUCH better after the upgrade. Interestingly it sounds best with a little volume—35-40 or so. Doesn’t sound so well-balanced at lower volumes.

Anyway, not sure I need anymore treble. I’m fine for now. Looking at the OEM door speakers...they are cardboard with about a nickel’s worth of magnet. Can’t believe they would make ANY sound...

These Subaru tweeters are too bright if paired with coaxials or any other aftermarket door speaker with a tweeter. Only do it if you have stock doors or non-tweeter doors. I put them in, and took them back out two days later. Way way way way way way too fucking bright paired with my coaxials, unless you are a deaf geezer.

Turns out the OEM are actually a high quality neodymium magnet speaker, which is how they get away with such a small magnet, yet get respectable sound. They are probably much higher tech than half the crap guys go on about on TW.

They are probably just these $2900 Alpines rebranded:

You will be a deaf geezer if you keep those Subaru tweeters sizzling in your ears. Might even get you killed. A lot of fellas end up bitten by snakes cause they can’t hear the damn things hissing at them.

Personally I would only pair these with a straight (non coax / non triax) door speaker.

I’m a music fan, love a loud clear car stereo, but these Subaru tweeters were like frying eggs right inside my head every time the drummer hit a cymbal or the singer said anything with an “ess” sound like ‘suffering’ succotash’.

I think they may pair nicely with the duller sounding OEM door speakers, but think they are a waste of money if you plan on upgrading your door speakers.

The OEM dash tweeters have a much larger magnet than the Subaru units and a metal chassis. They may not be as bright, but they might actually be a higher quality driver than the Subaru units.

I upgraded to the Kicker Subaru Tweeters along with a Kicker AMP a few weeks back and I’m very happy with the improved sound. Still have stock door speakers and sub. Very cheap do it yourself upgrade that makes a big difference.

Where did you mount the amp? Is that an easy upgrade to do?
