Sounds like you got baited into watching when the OP arrives and leaves while rest of us enjoyed the thread ;) I mean, if we did not enjoy the thread we would not have responded right?

Yup.....agree and agreed. In the scheme of things, the Taco is not a big time tow vehicle. It has always been one of the lighter trucks in class. Like I said earlier, even the lsd, a glorified traction control feature, works amazingly well, even compared to mechanical limited slips, they are only marginally less effective.

But....to be honest, I never felt as secure towing my pontoon boat on the highway with my Taco compared to doing it with any full size.

I believe that you are right. The Taco will be more basic.

Every wheel on a tractor and trailer has brakes that operate in unison. None are stronger than any other.

The reason for drums over discs is simplicity and strength. They're also air actuated s-cams. I don't think it's possible to make an air actuated disc brake that could supply the force needed to stop 80k lbs. They also need to be easily inspected and adjusted. Drums on big trucks aren't changing anytime soon if ever.

The 4th Gen Tacoma is supposed to share it's platform with the Tundra so I am expecting many shared components.

Definitely, but the Taco will get less content. Like @Dagosa said, probably not turbos and such. Just a guess.

I would not mind seeing a Turbo 4 cylinder in the Tacoma, lots of low end torque. I do not see them putting a Twin Turbo V-6 though.. too much power for a small truck like the Tacoma. Rumors are the Tundra will get a twin turbo V-6 and it might replace the V-8.

I thought that I might like a turbo 4 (I love turbos), but the longer that I had this truck, the more I think the v6 is just right.

The TT v6 seems right for the Tundra.

Hopefully less content means an available MT!

Oh man. With the strong hybrid vibe, I have an unfortunate feeling there. If the 2.7l 5MT was still around, I could see it living on along side a hybrid.

Did Toyota ever do an MT hybrid? The only two hybrid MTs that I can think of are the original Insight and CR-Z?

It is a coin toss in my mind if there will be a non-hybrid MT in the 4th Gen. I hope that I am wrong.

The Insight and CR-Z are the only 2 that cross my mind too, I would rock a Hybrid MT Tacoma if they offered it.

I have a serious mental block on hybrids. I just can't get around carrying along two drivetrains.

We'll see what trickles out in about 18mo.

Speed limit for towing is 55 in many states. 65 in others.
    http://www.doityourselfrv.com/state-towing-speeds/
So yes you would hold up traffic in a state that limits 55 in a 70 zone, but that's the law.
