So I am half way through this install. Just the rears right now are done. They got rid of the slow meandering bounce but now have introduced a fast oscillation over bumps. Think tight frequency corduroy. Its an improvement but it seems like the slow speed compression sucks. Just seems under dampened and allowing the strut to extend to fast or something. I am really hoping its because of a mismatch between the front and rears. Ill do the fronts after Xmas. I was curious if this is normal.

I can't tell you much except I replaced my shock with billy's all around and despite the rave reviews of everyone posting I noticed the same thing you did, Its not HORRIBLE, but it's definitely not as good as it was stock....

just my 2 cents... just don't think they make em like they used too... well, its either that or combined with moderately worn springs they don't perform near as well... I never did replace the front springs they seemed ok (no sag really, and the rear's were were done by Toyota FSB, brand new) but no sag doesn't mean the spring rate hasn't been compromised I guess???

I have had 5100's installed all around on my rig for over a year now.

No problems at all as far as I can tell. I only expected a slight upgrade over stock, feels like much more than that to me.

Since it is one of the cheapest suspension upgrades you can do, maybe you expect to much from them?:notsure:

I'd expect better than 200 000km factory shocks.....

I have had Stock bilstein, 5100s, and now OME. The 5100s were my least favorite.

So I was going to raise the front with the Clips on the shock bodies. Is that not the way to do it? I thought that was the point of the 5100s. Does that just preload the spring to raise height? I was under the impression it raised the over all height of the spring and such. Ill have to check them.

Should I run stock clip and get some ARB springs or something? I want the ride comfortable. I don't wheel but want a small lift up front, maybe 1.5"

If you want comfort up front then leave the 5100s on the zero setting and attain your lift with an OME spring like the 887 ( for 3" lift ).

It’s a monotube shock, I don’t mind the feel at all. I have 5100s up front with toytec springs and 5100s in the rear.

Yes moving the clip is pre-loading the spring which will change the ride quality. In my mind that isn't a lift kit at all.

I dont get it. These things are hugely popular. Everyone has em, raves about them. But I just got back form driving and the rear end essentially vibrates up and down in small movements. Its like riding in my old racecar when i was in my 20s. Are they duds maybe?

Looks like ARB emu's might be a better fit. Guess that's why they cost much more.

Mine were always smooth as butter. Are you sure everything is torqued to spec?

So Far I have just done the rears. There isnt much to torque really. Top and bottom mounts. Ive read some stuff about the u bolt clamps. Could check that.

I'm the second owner. The leaves were replaced, maybe I should take a look at em? What should I look for to confirm stock?

I see 3 long leaves and 1 short on bottom thats thick.

Those leaves are nearly flat so might be a good idea to replace them.
