Recently bought a new-to-me 3rd gen. While hardwiring a radar detector, I noticed this thinga-ma-jobby. Anyone have a clue what in the **** this thing is?

It's located just the the left off the rearview mirror and is about the size of a thumb. It has a clear window/lens on the bottom that looks almost like the window of an IR remote control. There is a button on it towards the top that if I press it, does absolutely nothing that I can tell so far. There is trace wiring down to the fuse panel (in the passenger compartment) and remnants of an old wire that has been cut down there. I'm not sure if it was powering this thing at one point or not.

    Any ideas?

    Merry Christmas Eve!!

Aftermarket alarm. May have been disabled and they just left that. The purpose of the button is for if you have to get into the vehicle without the fob to disable the alarm, you would typically unlock the door manually, open door (alarm starts to sound), put key in the ignition and turn to “on” position, then you push that button and it disables the alarm.

Edit: and the little clear lens is most likely an LED that blinks when alarm is armed.

Could be remote start, hit lock button on remote twice, then hold down again for a few seconds, see if it starts up.

Was my first thought too (alarm), but these have a passive theft key that has to be programmed to the truck. So what's the point of adding an alarm? No clue...

LOL, then I'm in deep chit with the things I've already said in the truck before I noticed it.

    Will give this a try.

To all the other replies, classic. I love this forum! LOL
