Okay, so I'll preface this with saying, "Yes, I know, this is a pretty fruity mod."

That being said...I hated the rubber cupholder inserts for my 2010 TRD OR Auto. They don't fit a lot of larger cups, and about 50% of the time that I take the cup out, the rubber insert comes with it.

As I was scheming on some solutions, sky1ine3 posted a cupholder for sale. Turns out the older model (guess this has to do with age and not trim?) Tacos use a different, plastic insert with little adjustable arms.

I had no idea if it would fit, but I guessed that Toyo wouldn't remold the entire cupholder/armrest/console assembly in order to adjust the cupholders. Figured it was worth the risk for $20.

It came in the mail today, and sure enough, it fits! Thought I would post this out there in case anyone else disliked the other cupholders. My guess is that you can order the different-style cupholder insert. I'm not sure of price or part numbers, but I posted two pics to show you the difference!

The old (probably looks a little better, but not as practical):

The new (new to me, but comes from older trucks):

The 05's - '08 or '09 came with those. I'm glad I didn't get the new one :puke: It was a stupid "update" IMO

Did you have to install the whole assembly ( gray piece + black arms) or just the black adjustable arms.
Also, would it work if you installed the black rubber insert in one side so you have one of each?

doesn't matter if it's the rubber inserts or the plastic with the retractible arms...the front cup holders are piss poor.

Carson is right. You only install the little black piece with the arms. You can "retract" the arms so that it's essentially square (the pic is with the arms at the first notch).

I just went and checked. You couldn't install one of the black rubber inserts without cutting at least the rubber insert.

Did this mod a few days after I got my '10. I was going to trade another Taco owner for his, but after I showed him the arms extended out, he decided to keep it, so I had to go to the dealer and buy one. It doesn't hold liter bottles very well as the arms fold back up when I go around corners, but it's better than the rubber cups. Sold the rubber cups for $20.00.

God, that's what the new ones look like?

Why in the fuck did they do that?

SLICK! I don't mind the pre-10 cupholders, but that looks better actually. I never have anything bigger than a Gatorade bottle.

I wish Toyota would have put a folding or sliding door over the cupholder or the area in front of it the way they did the 4Runner. It'd be nice to leave my iPod in there discreetly wired up without worrying about theft.

It's not a good place when you use large bottles...they interfere with the power plug-ins. When we got married, my wife had a 2001 Subie Forester, and it had pull out cup holders toward the top/front of the dash. Right in front of the a/c outlets.
