Didn't those come with a removable top over the back?

It looks like it might fit in the garage (for now). What year, mileage, engine, that sorta stuff?

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

For Robert, 3rd Gen was definately the best option.

The T4R he got has the same motor as mine, and there are a lot of other similarities between his Runner and my truck, brakes, front suspension, transfercase etc.

By having a truck that similar to mine, at makes it where I can be of the most help, have parts he can use, and have done most of what he'll need to do on his truck.

If he's looking for a 4runner, isn't going to build a dedicated trail rig, is on a bit of a budget... I think the 3rd Gen T4R is by far the best option. It's affordable to get in to (can get one in workable condition from $2000-$8000) and it has plenty of product support because it's so close to the Tacoma.

You'd be looking for a 96-02 4Runner. I'd say go with the 3.4 V6... the 4cyl doesn't get much better milage than the 3.4. If you can find a Limited, it should have a rear locker.

Only 1996-2000 Limiteds had the option for a rear locker

    IIRC
After 2000, lockers weren’t offered on 4Runners until the last year of the 4th gens (2000).

They did, that's what I have. They call it the multimode transfer case.

I was speaking on rear lockers from my last comment.

Right. Just mentioning what Toyota replaced the rear locker option with in case anyone following was wondering.
