Its easier on the synchros thats for sure. I do it when downsifting like before sharp turn or a hill. Also makes for a smoother and quicker shift.

Edit: forgot to add, i also revmatch downshift before i go down a hill to save the brakes a bit.

I usually do not, pedal placement is not the greatest.

Agree on pedal placement. Footwork has to be perfectly timed.

Side of my shoe usually brushes the throttle pedal for a miss, lol.

Apperantly some guys here heel toe 3rd gens. I tried and its not easy at all, it did kind of work but i wasnt smooth at it, defeating the whole purpose of it. Maybe with practice it will get better but really i see no point for it in a 4x4 tacoma.

It's harder than an older truck because toyota slows the rev down between shifts to keep the catalyst warm.

It's not you, its harder than it needs to be.

I am spoiled by my car too, pedal placement is damn near perfect for heel toe.

My first vehicle with Rev Hang was my 2008 Tacoma, felt so weird at first.

If you want an aggressive downshift in this thing you have to

It's been a little while since I've toyed with rev matching but technically, rev matching doesn't require the clutch.

I rev match and heel toe everywhere/all the time. There is a delay from when I press the throttle. It definitely sucks and I have to apply a lot more gas than I’m used to, let’s say in a Toyota 86.

about the pedal placement, I usually wear vans and it’s a little difficult to brake and throttle at the same time, I do occasionally have my foot slip completely off the brake. My thick work boots are really easy to heel/toe in.

Rev match down shift & heel toe downshift always. Pedal placement makes HT difficult but not impossible. I've had to train myself to use heel on the brake & toe on the gas. Proves an old dog can learn new tricks.
As further proof of that old saw, several years ago, we had an ongoing discussion of double clutching that motivated me to add that to my skill set. I find now that I prefer to DC as there is a symmetry to the movement that is highly pleasing & not present when single clutching.

I'm afraid I don't understand this statement. Please explain if you will to this dense old goat.

i always rev match. i don't heel-toe, that's ridiculous in this vehicle. yet i really enjoy the pace of operating this truck as a MT driver, and that's part of it, and it's also a habit from a long MT history.

You have to rev match to shift without the clutch. I'm not understanding this thread.

Yes. Always. Why wear the clutch when you don't have to.

agree on the DC... i like it on this truck especially at lower speeds or big rev jump downshifts.
