Sage advice. I did exactly that.

Before Bilsteins. Worn stock springs and shocks.

After Bilstein 5100s and 880 on the front and Bilstein 5100s on the rear with worn rear stock springs.

    upload_2019-12-24_13-23-29.jpg

After with the Wheelers 1.5 AAL

and i am supposing that once you go against the stock height then you have another worry with the LBJs?

Are you asking once you lift above stock you’ll have lbj issues?

Well they are stressed a bit more, but on my 02, the originals had 400k in them. I was amazed. If you wheel a lot you’ll probably replace more often.

Just bought the Monroe Assembled struts, and KYB shocks. They're not the best, but I believe they're decent quality parts.. especially if yours is a mall crawler like mines. Total came out to about $235 for all four.

I installed a Toytech lift and it rides way better than stock.

My exact setup. Although on my 3rz I saw closer to 2" up front. Truck sits level. I took the opportunity to install crappy SD springs replacement leafpacks out back along with the AAL. 100% do not recommend, shouldve went with Deavers and no AAL.

But the AAL with an oem spring pack is a great choice.

Looks like a solid front axle on it with leaf springs but don't think there's a drive shaft connected to it lol

Correct. I ran Billstein 5100s in the rear with the old worn springs for a short time before the AAL.

So the 5100 fit the back without lift in the rear? Someone mention you need at least 1in lift in the rear?

After installation I could see the boot was compressed more than normal. Since I wasn't hauling or driving over rough country, I got along until I could decide on a spring upgrade. Not preferred but was a temporary solution since the rear shocks were completely gone.

i see so if I don’t plan to lift the rear I just want my truck level. You recommend 5125 for the rear??

I think 5125 come in different lengths. The problem I had was the stock springs were sagging. 5100 rears are advertised for 0-2.5" of rear lift which will be good if you decide you want a mild lift.
