Because the Ridgeline is not a "real" truck, (even though it will honestly do what most people need), but with a unibody design it is not very manly. The in bed trunk is also not a very manly feature. The front wheel drive means a loss of towing capacity, you could get AWD but that is not as manly as 4wd.
Basically, on this forum, real men don't drive Ridgeline.


That being said, the Ridgeline was a contender when I was looking for a new vehicle, as it was very comfortable to drive, the shifting was wonderful, the rear air vents for the back seat passengers were awesome, but the ground clearance would not work for some of the places I go, so that took it out.
I am not gay. I have been married to same woman for 22 years and have two wonderful kids, but I have figured functionality beats looks, so I did consider the Ridgeline.
I still get a kick out of the Ridgeline jokes, and I will even make a joke or two about them, and I don't get offended by words, but to be honest, if the RL had a just a few more inches of ground clearance I would not be on this forum as of today.

I have a meso key, so there is no place for the physical key in it. I keep a real key inside the cab of my truck to lock and unlock my tailgate. Thats my only reason for keeping a key inside the truck.

 

This is the"official" answer. (I looked it up. It's mentioned in the Tundra manual, but not in the Tacoma manual.)

 

12 dollar actuator, wire and some connectors and you wont need it.

 

Free key that came with my truck is less than 12 bucks. Also I have only locked my tailgate 3 times since 2018.
