Having regrets w MBRP 3” exhaust/ looking to get the TRD exhaust

So, i switched from stock to a MBRP 3” black series exhaust w/ a 4” Tip. Installed it about 6 months ago, and i must say, I’m having some regrets. The sound was cool at first, but now I’ve noticed that it drones on longer trips when on cruise control, and it feels like my truck lost a ton of low end power, it takes forever to pick up speed, i drive a standard so i Can really notice this. Anyone else having a similar experience? Also does anyone have the TRD exhaust and is it worth the money? Thanks for taking the time.

 

The TRD is mellow and pretty quiet when cruising and oddly at upper rev range. I’d almost say it’s not worth it if you aren’t getting a big discount on one.

 

Any noticeable benefit performance wise? I’m kinda over the whole sound thing... i think it was some left over part of my youth still bugging me lol.

 

No performance gain. I went back to stock, sold the TRD, and never looked back.

For kicks maybe one day I’ll buy a stock exhaust off someone and cut the muffler out for an obnoxious ride once in a blue moon.

 

Haha... good to know.. i might go back to stock and just get a diff tip as I’m not a fan of the regular stock look. Then once i have some F u money laying around I’ll spring for the TRD. Thanks for the info man.

 

So my new to me 2019 PRO has the factory TRD exhaust. It is rather loud if you're not playing the stereo, but I like it. Sounds pretty throaty/sporty. On the highway with cruise control its a little annoying, but thats where mine will spend the least amount of time.

 

We all gotta grow up, stick with the stocker!

 

I see. Looking more and more like it may not be worth the investment though, unless like in your case it already came with it. @rangertrace

I need never grew up entirely, but it did take me a while to almost catch up

 

TRD exhaust isn’t much of anything. . More of a novelty, rather than performance or sound upgrade.


I believe, could be wrong, that a lot of low end torque depends on your piping diameter as well. I run a flow master , with 3 inch piping and it dumps underneath my truck.

I have yet to notice any loss of power. Sounds great too.

 

Really? I feel like when i switched from the stock 2” to the MBRP 3” i lost some serious power... If you’re correct then it could be a manufacturer thing? Maybe the way they bend their exhaust as opposed to MBRP?

 

At first I wanted to buy the MBRP (still do btw) but others have been telling me to get the magnaflow one instead but that one costs a pretty penny to purchase compared to the mbrp

 

Well, if i switch back to stock I’ll be more than willing to sell you mine for a good price anyway. I was gonna put it up in let go and Facebook market place. I’ve only had it on for about 6 months. If you’re interested in getting it we can talk privately.

 

Where are you located?

 

Stock is 2.5" and your right, you will lose low end power going with larger piping.

 

Have an exhaust shop add in a resonator to kill the drone

 

I've tried a few of the aftermarkets, didn't like any of them. Put the stock right back and for a bit better sound, I dumped it right at the
axle. That and the aFe intake sound great to me or at least as great as this 3.5 is going to sound.

 

That makes sense... i might be going back stock

 

@Wulf solid advice, but then it still leaves me with the power loss which i wasn’t expecting...
