If you want to look in the Northeast (Greater Hartford-CT area, Danbury-CT, Worcester-MA, Springfield-MA and east to Albany-NY) I would be willing to go check something out for you. Are you looking specifically for a PRO only? There are a few OR and Sports available that I saw with a quick search.

Merry Christmas to you too Mat.

I have a serious question for you. This might apply for other vehicles with turbo applications but I'm wondering how it varies with the Tacoma TT setup.

I know it's an old wives' tale but what's your take on letting the vehicle idle after driving for a decent while? I used to let it sit for 2-5 minutes idling before I shut off my Focus ST.

Unless you're going WOT and then immediately shutting off your engine, you'll be fine. If you enter a parking lot for example, or your neighborhood, by the time you park your turbos will have cooled sufficiently. This is why turbo timers are a waste of money imo.

Actually somewhat based in reality with non-synthetic oil. Synthetic oil really shines here. Plenty of turbos coked up in the earlier days. 2-5 minutes sounds nuts though. @mZiggy nailed it. Hope you are not gassing it up to your parking spot!

Letting your engine fully warm up before flooring it is crucial, more so with turbos. Back when i had my r6 i gave my neighbors the lovely pleasure of hearing my straight piped inline4 every morning so it could warm up .

Letting turbos cool off with a turbo timer hasn't been a thing in 20+ years.
These turbos are cooled by engine coolant, and unless the outside is glowing red hot from serious track use, there is no need

    Merry Christmas!

@OVTune — I'm loving seeing how this is progressing and I assume all testing is being done on a stock vehicle. You have stated that it holds gears well without searching, but I would assume that if you're running 33's, RTT and gear or 33's, armor, bumper etc. you'll still be needing some sort of gearing. Correct?

I would bet the extra power will mask the issue but still best to fix the gearing regardless of power.

Well cali bikes are very choked up stock because of emissions. Adding smog block off plates paired with a good full exhaust and custom dyno tune You can free as much as 15hp which actually makes a difference you can feel on bikes unlike cars. Also most sportbikes are all top end in their powerband so yes it does make a difference. The point being made to keep this thread relevant is to let your truck warm up fully before driving it hard. At least if you want your truck to last..

I’ve been following since page one and I’m super excited but I’ve not seen much on MT trucks. I know you’ve only got an auto test truck and you recently said you’ll be getting a MT test truck, but I’d be more than willing to do any tests you’d like if I could get a kit. I’m in the Morgantown WV area. 19 6MT 37k miles tuned and 285/75 stock suspension.

You commented on something I’ve been thinking about for a while now. So, you’re saying that regearing should be done, even if FI is in the trucks future. I’m brand new to any FI, but my thought was to keep the gearing because the added power with Mat’s tuning would make better use of the stock gears and help MPG stay closer to stock. Would you mind elaborating on why you think regearing is necessary even with FI? By the way, I’m not terribly concerned with MPG, but I also don’t mind compromising on how I perceive the added power from FI through the gears if it means better mileage.

    parts and stuff
if you go with bigger tires, the regearing offsets that and puts you back to basically stock.

The added torque will make the stock gearing more useable, even with bigger tires.

I’m guessing the Tune that’s included in the kit will modify the transmission computer and improve the shifting as well.

People, there’s a reason even turbo diesel trucks regear when changing tire sizes. It’s what gives you the driveability back, regardless of how much power you have.

Think of a bicycle with gears. You can use any combination of those gears at any speeds, but certain gear combinations work better at certain speeds and angle of ascent/descent. If the final drive ratio range (the available gear ratios between the lowest and highest gears) is too wide, then even a lance armstrong couldn’t make use of them all. Changing gearing widens or narrows this range to make more efficient use of all of the available gear ratios.

Proper final drive ratios improve the rideability of the bike (driveability of the truck).

Turbos turn an average cyclist into lance armstrong overnight (aka insta-steroids for your engine!)

    Make sense?
