Agreed. A rear locker is far from gimmicky. Some might suggest the Crawl Control is gimmicky, but it may actually get you out. A Sport has neither of these.

We weren't say the locker is gimicky by any means, at least I wasnt, they do come in hand, was speaking towards the crawl control as gimmicky and the fact that you can get away without having either just fine.

So what is the point of telling sport owners that. Just curious. Does it make you feel better about your purchase or something. No hate just wondering. I’m pretty sure the average sport owner is already aware of this and most don’t look for terrain that would need these options in the first place. We’re all Tacoma owners here lol. Let’s all agree that we have the best brand of trucks out either way.

Quite a few things at this point..
I know I brought up how these features can be helpful, but not necessary because you were asking if you should keep your sport or trade it in for an OR, so you kind of invited it..

Ahhh I see. Well you missed all the discussion in between lol. But either way I’m not hating. I think we all have great trucks

Sport should be just fine for your needs. Before I took a loss on trading a good deal in, I'd spend the dough on a winch and possibly a locker.

Back when I was pinchin' pennies, I got the 2002 DC 4X4 SR5 (plus the OR's at that time were only available with roof rack in my area, and I did not want that). Not locked. That truck took me anywhere I cared to go. Yes, a locker would of been nice a few times over, and I opted for the TRDOR this time, but that truck always got me where I wanted to go. There's a fond place in my heart for SR5's after the way that one treated me.

Guess my point is this, lockers, crawl control, etc., are great and all, but what in the hell did we all do back in the 70's and 80's without benefit of lockers? I'm pretty sure we all still ventured off road in some nasty crap. And yes, I always wanted a locker on the 2002. Never "needed" one. Certainly not enough to spend $2k getting one in there.

I'm still of the opinion that if the choice was locker OR winch, I'd go winch every time. Not that we're restricted to that choice, but if you're going to lose $5k on a trade in, those $$$ would get you set up with a winch, bumper, some springs up front that could handle it, and you'd likely never be left wanting. Or just save your dough, get your decent tires on there, and get a receiver mount winch, toss it in the bed when you go out, and call it a day.

Yes i hear you man, my buddy has 19 OR and he wants the skewp soo bad. He stares at my hood everytime he sees my truck, haha!

Would be cool if they offered skewp as an option for off road and locker on the sport, it would a lot of people happier.

Nitro Gear 5.29's, ARB locker, 3in OME Lift, ARB Leaf Springs, TRD Rims, Nitto Ridge Grapler 285/75/17, TRD skid Plate, CBI Rock Sliders, , ARB Compressor. Total Chaos bed stiffeners. Lots more to come.
It also allows for a re-gear, unlike the sport. Because sports do not have the bigger diff, you can not re-gear them at this time. That's not to say in that future it will be possible. As far as the e-locker, ya it sucks, go with ARB front and rear and you'll be happy. The only reason I went with Off-road is the bigger diff, MTS and a few other features. But I have yet to be impressed with the e-locker and climb control. Now if I could only find a white, sport hood to put on it, I would be a super happy camper. Although the regular hood is growing on me.

Lol if you guys are off-roading so extreme to the point where an extra 10% differential size matters, we are on different wave lengths with what we need. I dont live in the mountains nor will I ever take my $35k truck into a spot where it'll likely be damaged. I know you guys must be made of money but I'm not. That's exactly why I bought this truck, to save money in the long run with little to no maintenance costs. Majority of people who buy these trucks are the same. If I was made of money i'd go buy a raptor. LOL. Way more cool factor IMO.

People just need to feel superior / right.
Okay dude, you don't need a locker and crawl control to "wheel hard" JFC.

I'm willing to bet a good chunk of the people here are kidding themselves with what they need and putting themselves into debt to look all "overland" on IG / social media. I've had a truck since high school, lived on a farm and spent lots of time hauling, mudding, etc. It's comical the amount of people that seem to think the only way to do so is with a locker and crawl control. I really miss the culture prior to the 3rd gen, especially here on TW, recent trends have steered the tuner / bro crowd / different kind of owner (most who do not need a truck) and all the personalities that come with it, and not for the better.
