Nice. I got the AFE intake already, and i like it a lot. Just wondering if i cut the exhaust if they would fail me during inspection time.

There is no power gain or loss associated with changing mufflers out from OE. The same can be said about adding resonators. Unless the muffler is chambered *cough cough* (mostly looking at you Chokemaster).

I keep telling people give Black Widow Venom 250 mufflers a spin. They sound awesome, AND there is no drone at highway speeds.

    same here on the aFe

not sure, depends on your location. Toyota dealer where I bought mine always inspects it and no issues there.

I’ll probably ask one of the guys first to see what they say. I don’t see why they wouldn’t, doesn’t affect emissions.

It's all about personal preference when it comes to sound, but try to stick with stock piping diameter when you can. I love my Borla, even after it has severely quieted down since I got it.

I like my pro exhaust, sounds deep, quiet but when you go wot she sounds great paired with the TRD CAI. Can't go wrong, I'm over 50 and had a ton of mean, loud and some damn fine sounding automobiles. Do what sounds good to you. I think it sounds way better than the stock exhaust by far. I got an older mustang with a built engine, mustang club if America national show winner and I know what sounds good at least to my ears.

I have been meaning to put some out of my own for a while now but I keep getting bogged down with life. I will try to put out a video in the coming days by Sunday at the latest.

I have a MBRP Dual Exhaust,
The initial drone was bad, but then I resonator tips that dealt with most of the drone and the sound is deeper throughout the RPM.

With the more open exhaust, during certain RPMs, it does sound like it is just puffing air though lol.
Lost low-end power, got OVTune and regain the low-end and more.

Now removed my cats with URD MK? Ypipe.
No more air puffing sound, but an annoying V6 rasp at 2.5k~3k from 2nd and 3rd gear.

I had a MBRP 3' exhaust installed on my tacoma for two months before re-installing the stock exhaust. I loved the aggressive sound/tone of the MBRP exhaust, but the droning was pretty annoying on long trips. Performance went down with what you experienced in low end torque. side note, as soon as I installed the MBRP exhaust, my mpg on the dash decreased by 1 within 5 minutes of driving.

I put the TRD Exhaust and TRD CAI in my '17 TRD Sport and am very happy with the results; it's a more noticeable growl and I feel as though it's added a small amount of HP in the lower gears

MPG measures based on what displays on the dash is a poor measure of actual MPG and many other factors can tie into the loss you observed. Your best bet is to actually measure MPG based on calculations made at every fill up both before and after exhaust swap.

besides what the mpg on my dash was showing, i read forums about it and suggested that I measured my mpg on fuelly. I did that based on three fill ups with the mbrp exhaust, and it was almost the same as my dash, about 0.3 - 0.5 gallons off, but pretty accurate. I did two fillups with my stock exhaust right after, and I got a little over one mpg back.

It could be a restricting exhaust. Do you know if they are of a chambered design like Flowmaster is?

Some exhaust systems give you aggressive sound but the trade-off in doing so is an immediate power loss. Of course placebo effect tells you that since it sounds more aggressive it should be faster so you will feel like it got a hair faster, though in reality you are not going faster, you are just revving the engine harder because you want to hear more of the sound now. Lol. Weird how that works right?

Your best bet is still to make your own equations based on miles per tank for 5 trips with and without the exhaust at least and then dividing the MPT and how many gallons you filled up with to figure out how much you actually gained or lost.

Aerodynamics on the highway play a major factor as well. If you were cruising before at 65 but are now doing 75 at cruise you will lose a notable MPG and ultimately MPT.

I have a 2019 off road double cab, with a Gibson exhaust, a bit less agressive than the TRD, don't think the exhaust impacted anything but the sound, about $400 as with a black tip

I don't think it was a restricting exhaust, but it was a larger diameter of 3" compared to the stock exhaust of 2.5" which would explain the loss of power. I definitely did notice power loss for low end, I had to keep keep on pressing the gas peddle a bit longer. Highway I didn't really notice power differences because I was side tracked of the awesome aggressive tone/annoying drone lol!

edit: good note, I still have my mbrp exhaust, planning to reinstall it after I sound deaden my doors (already did my cab) to see if if blocks out more of the drone than before. When that time comes, I'll log the mpgs and check it with equations to see how much i gained/lost compared to logging it on fuelly

Op you need to dyno to really see what is going on with the exhaust. My guess is power have been shifted. You probably lost low end power and gained power at the high end.
