Tacoma -vs Ranger 2019 sales figures...it aint pretty

Interesting, and yeah, certainly area specific. I can count on 2 hands the number of Gladiators and Rangers I've seen combined in this area since they came out. But i'll see easily 3 dozen new Tacos a day (and i'm in a town with the 2nd biggest university in the US with a lot of mommy and daddy money).

 

LMAO, yeah dude I'm not a huge fan of the 3rd gen style either but for me it barely edges out the ranger and canyon/colorado. Those three are waaaay better looking than the new Silverado and the gladiator though. Those trucks are an abomination who the hell green lit the styling/design on those things.

 

This, I'm in CA also, I've iterally seen 4 gladiators and hundreds of 2018+ tacomas.

 

Admit it man, you like styling you are used to, could I even say a bit on the conservative side and thats great but I would styling wise take a new Silverado over the ugly Ranger, but its just my opinion and ain't worth $0.02

 

People buy what they want,nobody cares what Tacoma owners think.

The eco boost they’ve upgraded the turbos. They don’t fly apart and destroy the motor anymore. The early ones were awful

 

I also own an FJ. A first model year 2007 manual. It's a sweet vehicle and probably the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

One cool fact about the FJ Cruiser was that it was a Japanese built vehicle built soley for the North American market from 2007-2009. The rest of the world got jelly and Toyota began selling it overseas from 2010 on.

I believe that it is the only Japan-built Toyota 4x4 of it's kind to start in North America first before selling in the rest of the world overseas.

I have yet to see a single Gladiator, only came across 2 or 3 Rangers on the road so far.

I see white tacomas just like mine all over the damn place. FFS there's one just down the road from me.

 

I don’t think they’re selling that well.

I was dropping the cummins off at the dealer for yet another fucking recall and asked to test drive a Gladiator.

This one was a rubicon without the leather, 2” mopar lift plus aftermarket wheels and 37s. They also installed aftermarket sliders and a front winch bumper with winch. It looked sweet from 75% of the angles but drove like a pig. Plus I’ve owned Jeeps, twice bitten....

They were asking 65k....but told me they’d make me “a hell of a deal”....53k.

MSRP without the aftermarket goo was 52k. Doing the quick and dirty math I figure it had about 5k in add ons without labor.

So.......

 

Holy crap, I cannot imagine them selling well at such high prices!

 

Someone will buy that thing too. I thought that Jeep was just trying to sell small numbers of really expensive Gladiators? In any case I had enough troubles with Jeeps and can easily live without a $50k+ Jeep.

 

I see quite a few older Rangers in the 2 towns near me but mo new ones yet. After all this time still only two 3rd Gens and ones mine. Until last year I had the only one.

 

It's interesting that there seem to be regional differences in popularity of various trucks.

I've seen precisely one Gladiator on the roads here so far. (Or noticed, anyway).
The stealership had a row of maybe 8 of them out in front since they were introduced.
Now they've been moved to the side.

Haven't seen many (new) Rangers, maybe a dozen.
Still quite a few of the older ones though.

I've seen rather more of the GM twins.
A fair number of the Colorados being fleet trucks.

I see many many Tacomas here.
But possibly more Frontiers.
I suspect because they're cheaper.

Just my own unscientific observations...

 

There are a ton of tacos in these parts—Omaha, Council Bluffs. I see a reasonable number of Colorados, but very few Rangers and Gladiators. Most Gladiators still have the dealer sticker on them.

I’ve said it before, the Gladiator looks kinda cool in a retro, Lego-type way from the back or at an angle. It’s just the full side view where it looks ungainly.

It will be interesting to see the year-end sales figures. The Colorado sells about half what the Taco does, but per some analysts the Ranger was outselling the Colorado by mid-year.

Per carsalesbase.com the Taco was selling about 20K a month toward year’s end, the Colorado and Ranger each about half that, and the Gladiator about 5K a month. (Only Toyota reports monthly, the others quarterly.) Taco sales remain strong despite the 2 new entrants, though growth was down compared to 2018 (25% increase that year).
