There is a bird hunting forum I have belonged to for almost 2 decades now. One guy on there is a Nam vet, 1st Calvary and was in operation Crazy Horse in 1966. About once a year he asks if anyone has 16 ga. hulls for sale anywhere from 100-200 of them, he reloads low pressure loads for his old Fox Sterlingworth that has been passed down through the family. He is one of the good guys out there.

Those of us that shoot 16's are kind of protective of our hulls and I am a hoarder like many. This time when he asked I sent him a PM to ask if he had found any. He said no he never has but it doesn't hurt to ask, so he does once in awhile.

I've been known to go head first into a dumpster after 16 ga. hulls, and buy and shoot a lot of them I have thousands. Realized I have several lifetimes worth. So I asked him for his address and sent him 300 and told him Merry Christmas no charge for the hulls.

When he got them he said he wanted to at least pay for postage and was sending it to me. I told him please don't worry about it, was my Christmas present to him. Then got this in the mail.

He does custom engraving for high end hunting supply houses on things like dog whistles, etc. He put $15 in the money clip he engraved with the 1st Cav stamp on the 5 and 10. And wrote Merry Christmas on the envelope. Was and am stunned. I keep taking it out to look at it, I can't even draw a woodcock with that much detail let alone engrave one. Think I can find a few more purple hulls around here to send him.
