What Kind of Springs for this Truck~ 881's OR 882's ?

Im unsure what kind of springs I want on this Tacoma. Its poll time ! Tell me if you think I need the 881's or the 882's on the front. I may want the 285-75-16 tires on the truck but that would be decided on if they rub or not. If they rub alot, I don't want em. If they don't, I would add em. Tell me what you'd do to this Truck if it was yours !

With your heavy bumper and large tires you will need the 882's.

 

What about rubbing ? Will the tires rub with 882's and 285's ????

 

882s and 265/75/16

 

a little on the frame and pinchweld. You will have to trim plastic and pound the pinchweld a little to make room.

I personally would go with 881's with that 4 cyl even though you have a heavy bumper. You will see about 2.5" of lift with the 881's.

 

I roll the 881's with 285's.
I have very little rubbing but I also have the all-pro tube bumper which isnt quite as heavy as that (arb?)
Very little trimming required but if your gonna go to a wich later on I would sugest teh 882's.

I voted 882's with that bumper weight and winch. What I was trying to tell you in the other thread is just that I wouldn't touch the rear at all until you know how high the new springs in the front are going to ride. The bumper weight is really an x factor here. Both the weight and placement are going to change the ride height.

Once you know how high the front is going to ride it should be childs play to figure out the rear. No extra weight there, so stated lift numbers will be spot on. That's why I was advising against the kit you wanted. It had springs and components for the rear that you may or may not even need. Plus, it's a large part of the expense of that kit.

 

I had 96 tacoma with a 3.4L and a TJM front bullbar bumper (without a winch) and ran 881's with 32x11.50 tires. The 881's gave me about 2" of lift with the bumper.

I'd say....go with the 882's.

If you install the 882's and don't like the results, you can always sell the 882's and buy 881's.

 

I would really like to see a couple of trucks with the 882's and 265 tires. That would help me a whole lot. I want to keep the 265 tires because I am not wanting to cut my truck at all. Not one bit. I haven't seen any pics of tacomas running the 882's

Here is what Wheeler's advises.

Note that cab type and engine type are big factors, so consider that with anything anyone else on TW tells you. For example, you can't really compare with V6 DCs with your 4-banger Xcab.

Wheeler's recommendations use V6 as an assumption. I would think that because you have the 4-banger and ARB/winch, that would be roughly equivalent of the recommendations for the V6. You can also call Wheelers to discuss.

I would do the 882 with the bumper up front.

 

Wait a minute! I thought you had the ARB on your 1st gen. Did you also have a TJM on that thing?

 

Are wheelers lift numbers a bit on the low side? They say 1.75-2" (v6) lift with the 881s, yet you guys are saying 881s gave a 2" (v6) with a heavy bumper. and other sites have stated adding the 1/2"-5/8" spacer kit gives 'full 3" lift'... 2"+5/8" does not equal 3" and thats using the high end of their lift number amounts.

I'm really looking for about 2.5" in the front and have no need for coilovers as once they are at 2.5", they are staying there. Will the 881s (with nitrochrager shocks from the ome kit) with no additional trim packers/spacers give me 2.5" on my 2.7 with no front bumper?

882s will work the 2.7 really isnt all that much lighter than the 3.4 although it is a big enough factor to pick a different spring if there were no additional front weight. with the winch winch line and bumper id go 882 especially considering your not a 2.7 single cab

 

Okay guys, i think im gonna go with the 882's, now i need a little more advice. Should i go with the soft or firm OME nitrocharger shocks? I want a nice ride, i dont want it to ride like a horse and buggy. I drive it full time as it's my everyday truck and my work truck, so I spend alot of time in it.

ALSO, which is better? the 5 leaf or the 8 leaf springs from wheelers?
