loose side mirror?

Hey guys, just picked up a cherry '03 extended cab 4cyl 4x4, but on the 5hr drive back home the passenger side mirror (manual adjustment style) kept shifting out of position every 1/2hr to hour. Its pretty annoying having to constantly readjust it, so does anyone know of a fix for this problem, or should I just try to source a whole replacement mirror assembly from somewhere?

 

Welcome to the dark side of this 1st gen world... haha. Careful, it's a really slippery slope.

Not sure what the answer is. Mine (electric, adjustable) have a little play in them. Probably from bashing into Western Hemlocks. But they don't get out of adjustment, just vibrate a little at high speed, in the wind.

 

Sounds like the cables inside the mirror have stretched out (maybe?). Do you adjust it with a stick from the inside? Or is it the type that you push the glass with your fingers? In either case unfortunately the only option is to replace the whole mirror. This is why manual mirrors suck.

 

Still got my 07, this is the GF's rig and a test truck for some new 1st gen parts I'll be making.

Damn. Yeah, they're the ones that you adjust with that little stick from the inside. Guess I'll have to look around for one off a totaled rig or something.
