Here is the question: I can get the Toyota warranty 7 year 125000. I currently live in MI. However, I will be moving to Colorado in about 6 weeks.. Should I buy it?

I'm not a fan of extended warranties. Do you plan to modify your truck? If so, definitely don't do it.

    It depends on *you.*

Think of it like mechanic's insurance. The house is playing the odds. They'll pay out less in repairs on *most* trucks than they take in. But on *some* trucks, they'll have to pay out for an unexpected big repair. They overcharge enough that the dealer can make a nice commission on them.

Like all insurance companies, sometimes they drag their feet on playing a claim; depends on the company and the adjuster.

How much does it bug you to have to pay out for an unexpected repair? Some people get reallly angry/upset if they get an unexpected repair. Those folks net happiness is increased by being protected by a warranty.

I'm more of a risk taker. I'm happy playing the odds that I won't have to fix something, and if I do, well, that's the way it goes. I maximize my odds by purchasing inexpensive stripper models (my tacoma's a 4 banger reg cab 5 speed with hand crank windows) and maintaining them well.

My extended warranty has paid for itself 2.5 times over - and I paid $1800 Canadian for it.

One major repair and you'll recoup your money easy.

it's up to you. I have extended warranty on my truck. It will save my money if there is something wrong with my truck. On my previous vehicle have problems and already have extended warranty to cover the problem and it save me more than $1000 dollars.
If you plans on lift your truck, then extended warranty will not cover the lift kits. But it will honor anything else.

I opted for the 7/70k warranty. Piece of mind.

X2, Personally I think they are a rip off. You have a 70000 mile drive train warranty. The dealers fight you on ever warranty issue. You can't even get a TSB covered under the extended warranty. So I look at it as you are buying coverage for your drive train from 70K-100K miles. It is not worth it to me. Take care of your truck and you will go well past 100K miles. The dealer pays less than 300. for the warranty and sells it for 700- 1600. Total ripoff. I don't get peace of mind by spending money on a warranty that you know is going to be the battle royale if you put in a claim. I say save the money and earn some interest on it, take care of your truck and you will be fine.

All for the extended warranties, especially if bought from Troy Dietrich at Factory Direct. (not 3rd party, but official Toyota warranties) Our 2008 Corolla, out of regular warranty by 10k kilometers blew an air conditioning compressor a month ago. Platinum plan (all inclusive, no deductible) paid for entire parts and labour - more than the cost of the warranty purchase. (This was in Canada, although ECP bought in U.S.)

While the Tacoma is probably the best mid-sized truck out there, quality has sure come down over the years, as it has in the Corollas, which in the past, were extremely reliable. Lousy North American parts such as Delphi.

I bought from Troy too right before my 3/36 ran out and have used it already (beyond the drivetrain, mine was hvac as well).
All my other toy trucks (87, 90, 95) never had bought one or considered it. Those vins started with J hmm....
Not knocking the newer model (I like my truck :)) but I did have some out of character repairs during the factory warranty period that contributed to deciding to buy it.

As far as the TSBs, I think they state only good during 3/36, heck dealers fight even during that period though owners have written getting it done out of warranty like pay labor or parts & the drivetrain is 60k.

As far as the OP's ?, as Reg says, if its a Toyota warranty its good whatever state you live in no matter where you bought it. I live in VT warranty bought in MA.
