Spacer lift Thoughts

What do you guys think about the 2 0r 3in front coil spacer lifts, I dont offroad so much anymore, I just like my trucks lifted.
I see them on e-bay for 60 bucks.

 

well thats what i have, and its a stiff ride, i wish i got some more expensive stuff, i also have blocks in the back and its miserable on a gravel road. i say if its worth doing save money and do it right even if you dont offroad much. its hard to take a girl out on a date when every speed bump makes her hit the roof

 

So does the spacer actually compress the coil.

 

There are two different places you can put spacers. On the top of the assembly or inside of the coil assembly. Do some research to find out the pros & cons of each. Personally, I would AVOID top plate spacers.

Top plate spacers do not compress the coil.

Spacers inside the coil assembly will compress the coil and make for a stiffer ride.

 

Ah I see so I do want the top mount to raise my front end and maintain ride quality.
So what would the point be of compressing the spring other than to ruin the ride.

 

Because top plate spacers can cause damage to parts of your suspension.

Search for it....lots of threads about it already.

 

i have a 2.5 in spacer on mine that mounts to the top of the top plate it rides just as good as it did stock

 

I heard the top plate spacer hurts CV's but on the 5 Lug models. Im gonna get a 2.5'' lift top spacer for my 99 tacoma 6 lug. Plus i dont have a spring compressor

 

it doesnt seem to effect the cv on mine but its a 6lug

 

my buddy has a 2.5 spacer lift and his rides fine. just don't forget to get an alignment

 

any lift in front if high enough will damage cv boots if front diff is not lowered some bit. i personally like top mount spacers, just cuz they are easier to install. not a harsh ride, do not compress the spring. shock travel remains at factory spec. spring bound/rebound is not altered as much as the other type spacer (spring spacer). the spring spacer forces the spring to far from the limits of the shock when fully extended. too much stress.

it rides fine, but i am deffinatly going to upgrade to a more quality lift in the future. i stayed away from blocks and put on a set of 1.5" shackles on mine to give it a nice level stance! I am also runnin 265/75/16 mastercraft MT's

 

Shock travel is extended farther than spec because you've lowered the entire assembly. This is why the top plate spacers can be bad - especially if you offroad and stretch the suspension. The front suspension will droop too far, can cause damage to balljoints & the upper A-arm/steering knuckle can hit the coils.

If you strictly drive on the street and don't 'stretch' your suspension - you're probably OK with a top plate spacer. Just don't quote me on that. Balljoints might not like it.
