I didn’t see a thread for this topic so I created one. I modified my Predator running boards by removing the steps so I thought I would share my journey. I only do Overland style off-roading and never use the serrated steps.

    Here is a before pic

Took a cutting disc to the steps

Then hit the welds with a flap disc and finally a random orbital sander

Then it’s time to hang them for painting and a final cleaning

It’s always the same percentage when painting anything: 95% prep and 5% actually spray painting. I decided to try out Raptor 2K bed liner spray

It took 4 cans to apply 3 coats

I let everything dry overnight and reinstalled the Predator steps the next day. The Raptor urethane bed liner spray is very hard and I love the finished texture. It truly is a spray gun finish from an aerosol can. Follow the directions and spray at least 24” away from the surface

I did the same mod on our 2019 TRD Pro. No more muddy pant legs! With all the snow we get here, the steps turn into iceberg generators in the Winter.

Dont these bolt to the pinch weld? Probably only good protection from rocks flying out from the front wheel. Good job though!

So you kind of turned em into sliders? Do they protect the rocker panels?

They simply bolt to the body, not the frame. They do add some degree of stone protection for the rocker panels. They are 100% aluminum and definitely won’t work as rock sliders.

Looks great, I’ll never see rocks living on this sandbar but would like to do this for some paint protection on the clay roads.

I was going to do that mod to mine, but I use the front steps to stand on to clean the bugs off my windshield.

The Raptor 2K urethane spray cans are not cheap at just under $20 a can but I feel the spray gun results and great durability are well worth it.

The cans include a red button in the cap that you use to puncture the bottom side of the can to release the hardener catalyst. The directions call for shaking the can for 2 minutes initially and then another 2 minutes after you puncture the bottom portion of the can. I would have purchased the other Raptor product if I still owned a compressor and spray gun.

Now the rails are too narrow to use as steps. Are you just going for the fake sliders look?

Good information on the Raptor spray can liner though.

Can you use these to scoot on when cleaning the roof of your truck? Or are they too narrow?

I have used all 3 kinds now. I used the roll on for my sliders as the spray has too much loss on tube. I have used the bulk spray on for several things and love it. You can get a sprayer included or Amazon for like $10. They also make a nicer sprayer that has a pressure gauge for like $30-40 I think. The roll on is good too, but the foam roller it comes with needs to be replaced before you start, it is complete garbage. The spray cans are good for touch up on armor and it sticks better than the others if you prep right. Raptor is really good stuff.
