Depends on what beam pattern you are looking at. The Wide-Cornering pattern specifically is somewhat unique to Baja, it doesn't project very far compared to a driving pattern, but will give a much wider area flood of light. The ideal pattern really depends on how they will be used. Wide Cornering will be great for slower/moderate speed near field illumination, great for trails or FS roads, situations you want more proximity lighting. They won't be as much help somewhere you are looking to go at higher speed and need further distance lighting.

 

I’m looking for something that projects much farther than the stock halogens. Is LED for less power consumption and longer lasting. In amber or yellow

It’s not uncommon for me to drive trails above 40mph, so seeing at distance would be nice

 

That's why you get a bar. You're trying to make your fog lights do something they aren't intended to do. Sure, you can get some lights that aren't fog lights and get some extra light, but getting a bar will be way more effective.

 

Already have a bar. I barely notice my stock fogs in fog. I want something stronger

 

First you might consider upgrading the stock headlights if you haven't already. See post #2 in the thread below about using the Philips H9 or the GE Xenon H11 bulbs, or within post #3 using the Hikari LEDs. Also many find the OEM lights are aimed a bit low from the factory and get improved results aiming them up a bit.

The fog location is not ideal for distance lighting, distant light you want mounted higher on the vehicle. If you want better distance light you should look at driving lights, as a wide flood of light like wide-cornering is a shorter range light. Driving lights are meant to project father than your headlights.

What bar do you currently have? One does not usually need more distance light when having a light bar, unless it is all spread optic or a cheap brand.

40% of that light bar is a flood pattern, which won’t help with distance, meaning only 60% of the bar is dedicated to what you care about. You also probably don't want a pattern that is overly focused spot as well. A driving bar will best suit most needs for distance, unless you want to go extreme with spot which will illuminate a much smaller area.

A more ideal setup would be to use a light bar fully dedicated to what you want, distance illumination, not a combo bar. Diode Dynamics 18” driving bar is higher power, higher output and 100% of the optics are a distance driving optic while only being $200 if purchased at full price. It should provide far better distance light than your existing setup. You could then consider the Baja wide cornering lights in for fogs if you wanted that flood function lost from your light bar by going to a distance light. The fog location is more effective for the wide angle flood than a center mount light bar.

Thank you. I read your thread pretty extensively and decided to get the H9 Harness and H9 bulbs for the low beams. I hope there won’t be an issue with power draw (or throwing codes).

The only issue with putting a new light bar on is that the bumper has to come off (not fun or easy)

I’ll start with the headlights and then throw higher quality H11’s in the fogs.

 

When I originally made this post I was running stock Fogs, no complaints, I just wanted something better and amber.

Since then I purchased Hella Xtreme Yellow 2700K H11 replacement bulbs for around $20. And to be honest I really like them. I've had the opportunity to drive through plenty of rain, snow and blizzard level snow. I can honestly say that the Hellas have made a positive difference. The 2700K color really helps develop visual contrast, especially in snow.

That being said, I've just received the Diode Dynamics SS3 Amber LED DOT/SAE Fog Pods! Very exciting!



I'm working on an unboxing, install and general comparison video between these, the Hella 2700K bulbs and the stock setup.

 

Update

I installed the DD SS3 Fog kit last night and got a chance to do some basic visual testing.

My initial visual impression is that this product offers a brighter more yellow light projected in more efficient manor compared to H11 bulbs in the stock fog housing.

These pictures were taken quite close to the bay door. The improvement over the stock H11s is more noticeable in person and while driving.

Anecdotally, I can say the stock setup is about a 5/10 and the DD setup is a 7.5/10 (just an initial opinion)

I'm driving up and camping on Mt. Hood tonight and we are expecting 2-3 Feet of snow and blizzard conditions, so I'll report back after some use in shit weather...
