Anyone buy/build a fold down chair within the truck bed? Would love something minimalist that could fold up against the right side of the drifter across from kitchen kitv-dE9nhMxkFSPQ342O8uqBO7NGJbo5PyOoG711Yg_6824f82dd70146041304b0a24b7262a9321b76aa.jpg

Yea as @jberry813 said, I used to use have them when I had a bed rack & RTT because I needed something dust and waterproof. Not necessary anymore with the Drifter

I picked the Dewalt ones, but Rigid also makes a comparable system as well

I like how they were customizable with different combinations. I chose these two boxes because they fit perfectly under my BAMF bed rack. There’s quite a few to choose from. Check out the manufacturer’s website because I remember Home Depot didn’t have all of them, and Amazon had a couple diff ones available too.

My Khaya weighs 1100lbs “wet” with 22 gallons of fresh water on board, 10lbs of propane, all loaded up.

Yes it’s heavy for a Taco, I have the heaviest Dakkars out back 886X coils in front, and a set of Ride Rite Airbags as well. Yes I’m over GVWR, yes I understand that changing suspension can NOT increase your GVWR, yes I accept that.

I will say this past year I met with several TOYOTA engineers, two of which had 4Wh Campers that were as heavy or heavier, and while they of course wouldn’t go on record and say it they personally told me they “build in quite a safety factor” and didn’t worry much about it either. Take it for what it’s worth...

My Khaya has only been on about 5 months but I do plan on re-gearing to 5.29’s in April when my truck comes back out of the garage, I’d also like a big brake kit up front someday just to add to the safety factor, though I have no immediate plans for that since I run 16” SCS’s rims and do not want to go larger.

also i use a bunch of pelican cases, airtight, and the larger ones have wheels on them (like the 2750) they can also double as a table or seat when needed and are cheap enough in the second hand market

Probably because that "safety factor" doesn't include the rear diff exploding under that weight. :pccoffee:

goose gear made a set of fold down benches originally designed for the AT habitat that were pretty slick. I think you could adapt them to the drifter easily or build something similar

That would block the window tho.

true, any fold down bench will while it’s up, but you could make something where the hinge is at the bed rail so it wouldn’t block the window while down.

    you’d just need so legs

certainly not doubting you, but do you have any links to exploding Tacoma diffs? I’d be interested to read about it as I’m re-gearing in April unless something changes my mind.... I don’t mean rock crawling obviously my truck isn’t suited for that.
