That's a neat little bottle! And I dig the article. They just don't advertise like this any more.

I got out yesterday and found some old stuff including a bunch of square nails, an old fountain pen tip cover, and a few old buttons. As luck would have it, one of the buttons has a nice cock on it!

I use a MineLab E-Trac. Are you thinking about getting a detector?

That's where I am. I'd love to get one, but I have no clue where to start and don't know anyone around here to help me learn the ins and outs of detecting.

Yeah, it can be overwhelming. The best thing you can do is befriend somebody that detects regularly or join a detecting club. You can do tons of reading and watch plenty of videos, but until you get hands-on instruction, it may be hard to "get it."
Treasure net is a great site for detecting info. I don't see a regional breakdown, but I didn't look very hard.
    EDIT:http://www.treasurenet.com/index.php

It is prolly a better idea to start with a detector on the entry level, as opposed to a high end machine. If the detector is very complicated, you are more likely to become frustrated and give up on it. I assume you prolly want a coin/treasure machine as opposed to a gold machine. You can buy a machine that will do both, but it probably doesn't do either really well.
Here is a decent video about detector comparison: (some videos are pretty bad)

Highly recommend both the minelab equinox series, or the Garrett AT series for a first detector, very intuitive, and very capable.

yeah im going to try and borrow one from a friend. I think he has a fisher, one other friend has a minelab but i think he said it was for gold. Id like one for coins, buttons, jewelry etc...im not really prospecting... i like finding old bottles stuff like that.

    Yes, empty when found.
They look like a flask for a cocaine addict.
