yep! that spray on crap will just hold in moisture and make it worse. I make sure to clean mine well and often and never
had issues with any taco I've owned. :fingerscrossed:

First thing I did after I got the truck home was use this stuff called rusfre undercoat. You buy a 40 dollar gun from Amazon, hook it up to your aur compressor and make sure every NANOMETER of your body is covered with clothing you dont care about losing. And that you have literally covered the entire truck like a Christmas present except the underside. Make sure before you do it, you pressure wash and BY HAND use degreaser and wipe down the whole underside. It's a bitch, but you will never have to do it again. This stuff is the best undercoat I've ever used hands down.

I believe that an annual application of a non hardening product is the best defense against rust.

I have used rusFre in the past. I know they made 2 versions - one that would harden to some degree and one that would stay soft.

Will have to check which one I supposedly have, but I've never had to apply it multiple times. Nor would I want too. This stuff goes on THICK. After a few applications you would have a damn inch of coverage and an added 60lbs to the truck lol. Maybe it's just me, but I slathered that shit on and used every drop I had bought. That method has never failed me over the years and dozen or so vehicles.

Also picked up a nifty little attachment for my honda pressure washer that is a 4 jet sprayer on wheels you push under the truck and it sprays up. Does absolutely fantastic job at cleaning the underside and frame after mudding or snow. They only cost about 40 bucks on Amazon. Money VERY well spent. I recommend getting one with a neck bend attachment that way you dont have yo bend over while using it, and it reaches further under the truck with less effort. 40 bucks to protect 45k, that's a good insurance premium right there.

I'm surprised after 16 pages of this thread nobody has mentioned Corrosion Free. It's what the canadian army uses on all their equipment.

Cost is around $150 for a spray. Oil based undercoating. Creeps in everywhere. Doesn't drip like Krown and not rubberized like Ziebert.

My 2018 has only seen one northeast winter, but not a bit of rust on it.

Wow I have an 04 Taco with a replaced frame.
Was thinking on selling it but maybe I should keep it for snow.
Just bought a used 17 Taco Off-road. How do I find about an extended frame warranty in PA?

I used fluid film. I bought a gun and a few gallons. I only have a small pancake compressor but it works well.
I hear that the brand called wool wax is even better, tends to stay on longer.
Amsoil HD metal protector is even better but only comes in aerosol cans, this stuff dries to a wax like film.
Fluid film and wool wax stay oily and are more prone to wash off from road spray after time.

So if you guys are curious about the new L32/K0D Limited Service Campaign here is a gallery of the end results. Also if you have fluid film or other liquid rust inhibitors then dealers can deny performing this on your truck due to the process involved.

    https://imgur.com/gallery/nsGI0Qk

And the bolted end caps do require drilling through the frame. Now a good shop will apply some paint to the hole but it's not a listed step in the process, so your mileage may vary.

I just had my frame done while it was in getting the timing cover fixed last week. Better solution than years past and I can still coat my frame as needed. Plus I'm covered for the 12 years. I'd suggest getting it done.

2017 Tacoma owner here. I got the CRC letter about 2 months ago and finally was able to set up an appointment today after the necessary "back ordered" parts have been received. The dealership rep told me that the CRC Application is not necessary for my truck because the frame has already been rust treated on the inside. He said all my frame needs is to be plugged up. And as far as the outer frame and surface area rust (if any), he said the service campaign doesn't cover that. He said my appointment will only be an hour, but I told him I heard it can take anywhere from 8 hours to 2 days for the service to be complete, and he said that amount of time is not necessary for my truck. Mind you, my truck hasn't even been in yet for inspection. He talked really fast and it felt like he just wanted to get me off the phone quick and get my appointment done quick. I feel uneasy about this information. Anyone else experience this, and/or is what he's saying correct?

My dealer asked me if I wanted to have it done when I scheduled an oil change. Dropped it off yesterday and they gave me a loaner. We'll see what comes from it.

I also received the letter. I took my truck in for the service and they would only install the plugs for the frame. They say that my truck was coated with crc at the factory. The frame is severely rusted. If you look underneath my truck you would swear it was a 90's model by all the rust there is. The way it is going I bet the frame will be a total loss within 3 more years. FWIW it was assembled in Texas, sold new in Michigan and spent duration of it's life in Michigan.
