    Yes 2020 does. It gives warnings like “slow traffic on route in x miles”, “heavy rain on route in x miles” . The map route is downloaded from the cloud so it draws an optimum map based on traffic, road closures etc. it can also reroute instantly.

    I wonder how many people who say it can not do certain stuff actually used a 2020 nav system.

    Options are good.

    Something that has not been mentioned here. Some people don't like the intrusiveness of Google or Waze (also owned by Google since 2013) tracking and logging your movements. And then integrating that history to their profile of you. It's never really bothered me directly, but I can see where some people have either a personal or philosophical issue with this kind of tech. Others are happy with the results it gives you.

    I turned it on, saw the outdated (by a decade) interface and immediately turned it off and went to Carplay... It is good to know it will do updates though.. I am assuming it would get notified of road closures also then?

    You are fooling yourself if you think Toyota does not track you and tie that into your VIN, which in turn is tied to your Information much more accurately as they have access to you legal information. This is not new, nor is it just Toyota doing it. Any vehicle with Navigation and Cellular has been doing it for years, also if you check your on-board nav system you will see it keeps track of your route whether you use it or not.

    Big brother watching is not the Gov't, it is a power higher.. Capitalism.

    If you haven’t seen it, look at this thread and notice the sticker at the map light area.

    Considering it can change route based on traffic, it should be able to do it based on road closures as well. Information for both of those is supplied from the same place.

    You are most certainly correct, but Toyota's resources to cross reference data do not compare in any real sense to Googles. Each consumer will of course decide which company is more likely to be, in their view, abusing the use of any collected information.

    One of these companies primary reason to exist is to collect and sell data. Including Google Analytics data from this site. For various reason I tend to use that navigation the most often. It doesn't mean that I ignore what this company does and how it might affect me and the world.

    As the OP to this post, I would just like to chime in and add that now that I have my TRD OR, I get the same "app not installed" message that other people are getting when they hit the map button. I contacted the dealer about this, and mentioned that the salesman said it came with installed nav, and their answer was "can you send us a picture of your window sticker." (sigh) I informed them I had already thrown it away. They said they would have to "order another window sticker" to resolve the issue.

    I called several dealers in my area, all of whom assured me that the TRD OR came with installed Navigation for a trial period. One even sent me a document from Toyota stating as much. By that time, I had stopped caring, and just decided to stick with the carplay option, as I wasn't really interested in paying a subscription in the future. I was going to by the truck anyway, its just really shitty that they needed to lie about it.

    I thought all previous TRD's came with Navigation installed. Is this a '20 thing?

    according to the PDF from Toyota that I saw, it was marked 2020, and when you scroll down to the included features, it's broken into several different columns, (SR, SR5, TRD sport, etc) and it specifically said under the TRD OR section that the Nav was included, with the trail period, and then paying after that. I don't know what I did with this document, looking back on the the situation, it's fairly plausible that I deleted it in a fit of rage, but I will make an effort to look for it.

    Nothing in life is free, you pay to play with Google and the payment is your info. When google maps was starting to become a reasonable alternative to Microsoft's Streets and Trips I had the decision to pay cash or info... I chose info. No one can legitimately claim they are ignorant to what Google does with your info and most of the times they even stick to their privacy policy... when they feel like it, sometimes....

    I have the window sticker for my truck but it doesn't mention nav installed. Guess I should have looked closer and that's on me. Although it's very deceiving when you hop in the truck and it says map on the dash to not actually be connected to some sort of built-in navigation. Seems like it should be something that can be added by a software download of some kind like iGo? Do we know if there is a difference in the HU between the ones that have nav included and the ones that dont?

    I asked my salesmen if he can find out for me if it’s possible to be installed via software but he just said you have to use your phone.

    No luck at my dealer.

    Yea, mine said something similar. However, I plan on asking someone in parts for a more clear answer. Sometimes I feel salespeople just give you an answer without doing their due diligence.

    google and apple maps = free updates
    google and apple maps = good ui
    google and apple maps = real-time traffic updates and route adjustments
    google and apple maps will let you download the entire route or area at any time so that it is cached and not dependent on cellular data
    google and apple maps use gps

    entune = expensive map updates
    entune = shitty interface
    entune = shitty routing around real-time traffic (if at all)

    By stating that you have navigation for a trial period, I wonder if that is the Destination Assist service, not traditional navigation. The built in navigation on the earlier 3rd gens, like my 17 OR, it isn’t a subscription service, you have an SD card with the maps and it uses cellular or HD radio signals for traffic info like slow downs or closed roads, and for setting up your route when you enter a destination. It was all part of the Entune Premium Audio head unit.

    Edit: It looks like the Dynamic Navigation function is a subscription service that keeps map etc. up to date for you. No SD card anymore? This is available on the Premium Audio units.

    Here’s a link to the multimedia guide that details the functions and whatnot.

    It does have traffic, not as comprehensive as Google or Waze but it gets the job done.

    It's really hard to find out what it costs to keep Dynamic Navigation working after the free trial on my 2020 TRD Pro. Which makes me uneasy abotu the costs in three years.

    This is all I can find on it, and it's a bit outdated.

    $169 + dealer labor?

    I'm very curious on why 'dealer labor' would be required on something that updates via a cell tower daily? Surely they don't need to plug something into the truck to get it to work when it works without being plugged in for three years and updates itself daily as needed?
