So clearly malls are under attack from all of the on-line Amazon and Inet shopping which is death blow #1. Death blow #2 is all of the slack a$$ parents who just drop their kids at the mall and leave them there. There was a shooting at a huge mall near me last night that unfortunately lead to the death of a 13 year old girl. Here is my question; why can't this parent dump and run stuff be policed against? Hell in my hometown driving "the whip" or lap around town was the big thing. At some point and for some reason that seemed then all too unfair the town decided to stop this decades long practice and stopping it sure had nothing at all to do with violence. So the police would pull you over if they saw you drive past a certain point more than twice. They would ticket you and call your parents. If they can do this in the late 80s and early 90s then why can't they police against parents (which I might be stretching this word parent) who drop kids off at the mall and bail? I mean if you as the parent of these "kids" can't stand them then why would you expect that total strangers would be able to stand them. They already closed one large mall in my area due to this which negatively impacts so many...loss of jobs, etc.

Maybe because there's nothing illegal about it? Or driving laps around town for that matter.

Unless the mall has a policy against unaccompanied minors there's nothing to be done. Even if they do, it would still be a mall policy and up to them to enforce, not the police.

I live near Akron Ohio and we used to have 3 malls. Rolling Acres was the largest and went out about 8 years ago and now Amazon is building a distribution center on what is left of it. Chapel Hill Mall is about done. 3 of the 4 anchor stores closed and JC Penny is almost done that is still open. Most of the other stores have already closed. The third mall is still doing fairly well. Its sad. I remember when these places were packed and people used to enjoy going to the malls to shop and people watch. Now they would rather sit and home and shop on line and order Grubhub. I don't get it. I always looked forward to spending time out with my family and friends. Our world is changing.

Genuine question... what does parents dropping kids off at the mall have to do with the shooting? Was it an unaccompanied minor who had the gun, or would have the victim not been shot if mom or dad was with her?

I’m in full alignment that a lot of parents these days suck, but not seeing the direct link.

You sound like a rambling old man. Kids have been hanging out at malls since the ‘80s. There is nothing new or recent about it.

The mall is private property. If they don’t want to restrict kids there, it’s their business. Vote with your wallet and shop somewhere else if you don’t like it.

I'm not sure what type of rock y'all are living under but if you visit this particular mall there are literally hundreds of 11 to 15 year old mobs basically of kids congregated around the entrances...exits....and roaming the malls...there had been a large fight about 30 minutes before the shooting....the police had to set up a huge "loser parent pick up location" for all the loser parents who had previously dropped their kids off at the mall and driven off to do who knows what....a few months ago a grown man knocked out what turned out to be like a 12 year old girl because she attacked him at the front entrance and it made national news...so yes I think this is a problem...I too used to love malls and movie theaters and now I can only go before Noonish because all these types of issues occurre now.

Funny you complain about kids being dropped off at mall yet no comment on dumbass shooting people.

Yeah I agree but I think the OP's point is that people are voting with their wallets which in turn has negative consequences.

The economy is going to shit boys. There's a reason why the Fed has dumped billions of dollars into the repo market.

Funny, I can’t remember the last time being at a shopping mall.

Why would I go out, waste gas and time for a expensive crappy experience when I can get the item next day (prime) at my doorstep? Only problem I might have now is porch pirates, but I have that covered now.

The next benefit would be using gift cards from ones local grocery store that accumulates fuel points. 2-3 times per month I get 1.00 off per gallon up to 35 gallons, for a savings of 70-105.00 per month. This benefit helps out a lot for someone that drives 25k+ miles per year and has vehicles that take premium or diesel fuel.

The shootings/stealing/attacks are all derivatives of non disciplined, parentless young people that have no respect for themselves, others, and definitely not an easy target. I just happen to know a person that heads up corporate security for shopping malls (largest security company in America) and tells me many stories that just blows my mind. Drugs, guns, explosives, professional thief’s, etc. I’ll copy and send him a link to this thread.

Consumers have spoken, and the malls better adapt or end up like Sears and K Mart.

I didn't mention the shooter b/c you can't prevent the shooter from shooting but you sure as $hit can prevent your 13 year old girl from being shot to death by NOT dropping her at the mall from 6PM to 10PM each Saturday. I too agree that malls need to adapt or die which is basically the entire point of my post where I was pointing out; if my hometown can stop cruising when I was a kid then why can't policing today stop this parent dump and run mentality that causes the mobs of unsupervised kids that lead to the fights...then the shootings....and of course the negative shopping experiences.

Has this really boiled down to prevention of being caught in a mall mass shooting? I guess we should stop taking our kids with us to church or a deli too, less we be judged by internet critics for being bad parents. This thread is stupid. Malls aren’t dying because kids hang out there. They are only still open because kids still want to go.

Pretty sure a kid is statistically more likely to be shot at school than the mall.

The girl would have been shot just as easily if mom or dad were with her. Your post makes zero sense.

So let me get this straight..... according to you, I need to be a helicopter parent and hold my kids hand, accompany him every where until he is 18 or until I feel he can can safely navigate society with out making mistakes???? That sound about right?
