i tried to take that pillar trim off at the salvage lot, it broke into two pieces on me!

 

The 01+ has the carboard/fabric liner. I just traced out where the two square parts have to recess up in it and cut it with a pocket knife.

 

Fuzzy velour looking stuff. I hope it doesn't fall down like a GM car.

Oh.. the pillar trim is vinyl.

 

i would like to think there is MUCH more headroom with the vinyl vs the other type

 

95-97 has vinyl, 98-04 has fuzzy preformed easily taken out one

 

I'll be in for that I guess.

Replace them with the 10mils/JIS combos found in the later year trucks.

 

The vinyl has a good bit of insulation above it, I'd imagine either make some noise. Use sound deadener like mass loaded vinyl if you want to cut road and weather noise. If I rip my headliner out, I'm not putting it back as vinyl, I'll get one from a 98 or newer instead

You can drop the vinyl one halfway but if you've ever tried to put it back you'll see that its under tension and extremely finicky, they don't really ever sit right again and end up kinda wrinkly. Unfortunately they're tucked into the back window rubber molding too so they are a bear to remove and put back without cutting. I'd like to run a good portion of my wiring up there this time around and the preformed unit has space on the sides for cable tracks too.

 

I've been able to get through a few difficult interior trim removal projects over the years with this type of trim separator tool. I always take it with me to salvage yards.

I've actually used it on some engine work when I need to separate something with a wedge separator.

For old coolant, I drain it directly into a 5-gallon bucket then use a large funnel to pour into the empty coolant bottles I use. From there, straight off to the recycle center.

i think i started taking it out at the bottom instead of the top, i need a near-new blue piece from where my head hit and cracked it, the body shop could not locate the discontinued part so left it
