Low beam out, high beam good

2011 Tacoma - low beam do not work at all. All other lights associated with the dimmer switch work as expected. Low beam icon does NOT appear on the dash. High beams work normally, icon for headlights and high beam icon both appear on the dash when initiated.

I replaced the 10A fuses with known good ones. Thought it may be the low beam (dimmer) relay, but after replacement nothing changed. Even tried an extra headlight to make sure one filament wasn't somehow blown without an easy visible cue.

Am I looking at a failing dimmer switch even though it controls high beam too? Anything else I should check? I'm not sure I want to mess with removing the steering wheel with the airbag and all so I appreciate any help. I'm out of town for the holidays and do not currently have access to a multimeter. Thanks.

So your actual headlights work, but it's just the indicator on the dash that doesn't? Or they only work when you put the highbeams on?

Low beams don't work at all, including the icon. Had the police help me realize this. All marker lights, etc. are on as well as high beams

Headlight indicator and high beam indicator work but low beam indicator doesn’t work?

There is no such thing as a low beam indicator. As for your low beam headlight problem, you’re going to have to break out the schematic and the multimeter and do some testing. Unfortunately the Customtaco schematics are gone and the wayback schematics don’t work on a smartphone.

No specific low beam indicator I agree. I meant the icon for the headlights doesn't come on with the low beams in their on position . But that icon and the high beam icon appear when I turn on high beams. Basically saying the light isn't burned out or anything like that.

Yeah...I'll have to either buck up for a cheap multimeter to get me through or time my two day trip back home to be all daytime hours.

Umm have you changed the bulbs? There's two filaments in the bulbs so the low one could be out but not the high.

I thought about that, and have an extra. I swapped it but no love.

I switched the relay as well, it didn't change the situation unfortunately either.

This is my inclination as well...

So no low beams on either side? Wonder if there's an issue with the stalk not sending the trigger signal

    Well that sucks.
    Bad wire or stalk maybe.

I swapped the passenger side headlight and there was no change. I can hear the relay click when someone turns on low beams for me. Shouldn't that eliminate the stalk as an issue or is there more to it?

Is it smart enough not to illuminate the headlight dash icon if power is not actually turning the headlights on for whatever reason? Like I say, I hear a click at the relay when it is attempted. But the only time the headlight dash light comes on is when high beams are engaged, along with the high beam icon of course

I don't remember on the Tacoma if the headlights need to be on for the foglights to work, or only the parking lights.

Low beams need to be on for fog lights to be on, per federal reg. (Ford had to issue a recall once because the fog lights could be turned on without the headlights.)

My 08 needs only parking lights for the fogs.
    Not factory installed.
But installed by dealer before purchase.
They do turn off with highs.

When I was pulled over, the cop said fog lights were on but not low beams, of course I thought low's were on. Does that make sense?

Sounds like the stalk is working correctly and your issue is from the relay(s) to the housing.
