Since we're all telling each other what works for our marriage, we do #1. A joint checking that all money pools into, and gets budgeted accordingly. I basically get an allowance, and any extra money I bring in from working on peoples trucks I do whatever I please with. It's fantastic, and I don't have to worry about a thing. I want something? If there's fun money, buy it. Not enough, do some CMCs and save up for it. Keeps my ass in line because I can really spend money.

I know there are guys on here that have been married way longer than I and are surely much more intelligent than I am. With that being said, in my 26 years of marriage, I have learned two things....

Always have about 3-4 "generic" apologies memorized that you can use with your wife, just fill in the blank with with what you did wrong. If you haven't done anything wrong, said something wrong, broke something, didn't do something, TRUST ME, you will soon. If nothing more than just coming home from work and walking in the door "HAVE A GENERIC APOLOGY READY", because something will be your fault!

The other thing is, when you want something like "sliders" for the Taco, NEVER EVER come out and ask her about or for them. You MUST exercise patience and self control, because one of two things are going to happen sooner or later. #1 - she will want a sewing machine, new dress she will wear once, another pair of shoes that look just like some other pair she has, or "fill in the blank", because it will come. When it does, that is your perfect open door to praise whatever she is asking for and actually up sell her and have her to get nicer than what she really wants. Within 24 hours, she will be DEMANDING you to go get the sliders, and not just some cheap one's, she will tell you to get something really nice and safe. #2 - sooner or later "out of the blue" she will tell you to go get the sliders you want and make sure they are good and safe. (BEWARE OF THIS, THIS IS A PLOY TACTIC OF HERS), because something else is coming after you buy the sliders. EXAMPLE: a couple years ago, I wanted a new rifle scope (Leaupold VX2) to be exact. Then out of the blue, she says "haven't you been wanting a new scope", which she followed up with "make sure you get you a really nice one, one that let's the most light in at the end of the day hunt". If you are hunter, you will understand my excitement when I ordered my new Leaupold VX3 (4-12 x 50) with Boone and Crockett reticile. The next day it hit me, "crap, I can't believe I fell for that". Needless to say, the next Saturday I found myself sitting in the local Acura dealership looking at new cars (you guys know exactly how this story ends).

Now I typed all of this stuff in just to hopefully bring a chuckle from someone who is having a bad day (though the story is true) and maybe put a laugh on your face (at my expense). Truth is, my wife is my best friend, the person I would take a bullet for, the person I would walk through three hells for, and there is NOTHING that I would not do for her! She loves me through my weird quirks, provided me a beautiful daughter that provided us with 2 glorious grandchildren. She keeps my clothes clean, cooks for me all the time, helps me by doing anything I ask and she loves me unconditionally. You better believe it, I gladly bought her that new Acura and anything else she wants, that we can afford.

Moral of this story (that some of you are wondering why I took the time to type all of this), is to "use your head" and the sliders will be on your Taco before you know it.

Happy New Year to all my TW friends!

Maybe your first trip to the woods with your new sliders should involve a bag of lime and a shovel.

He’s talking wife unit here. Logical explanations have no bearing on the matter this is an emotion based subject for wife units. You only won because you gave a reason that elicited an emotional response :D

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

I built an entire AR10, with full cerekote, bi-pod, Nibx bolt carrier and trigger group etc, etc, etc... I thought my wife didn't even know about it.

Until I ordered the scope... the last piece... expensive... and then my wife asks me...

Are you done building the rifle yet? :anonymous:

Every couple finds what works for them. The wife and I have separate accounts that both have visibility and access to. I don't monitor hers and she doesn't monitor mine. I pay the bills and take care of the investments, she does the grocery shopping and pretty much everything else. Works for us. If we want something we get it, discussion isn't necessarily required but we keep each other informed on bigger purchases. For the most part we both tend to part with our money reluctantly.

In the defense of my wife unit who I occasionally make fun of, she did convince me to go ahead and buy my new Tacoma. :)
but now she wants a new car. Wife units are tricky I tell ya.

So the important thing I got out of this is in the form of a question.

What scope did you go with? Asking for a friend, for his wife’s approval.

My wife made it clear early on in our relationship when we were dating that finances are a big deal to her because that's one of the main reasons for divorce. She wanted to make sure we were on the same page so there wouldn't be any issues in the future. I'm glad she whipped me into shape too because before, I had credit card debt and lived paycheck to paycheck and no savings because I was terrible with money. Now, I have a 401k and shit. It's awesome.

    Thoughts on the G 44?
Not trying to derail the thread but OP isn't getting sliders anyway. I bought two guns this year and then glock announced the G44 and Kel-Tec announced the P17. I want a .22 plinker for cheaper range days/stress reliever.

Sounds like a good path . We didn't get to where we are without our share of mistakes, and learning a lot of discipline from, and with, each other.
