Bed cover and Mud flaps, OEM Audio, Super Bump stops, Sumo Springs, Bed Stiffeners, Stryker hood shocks
Sumo Springs would help a lot too.

    Hey guys,

Wanted to give you guys some info about my recent load. Moved back to Texas. I was living in New York for a year. Hauled a cargo mate trailer with approximately 2200 pounds worth of furniture, boxes and bins roughly 2000 miles in 4 days through the mountains of Virginia and Tennessee. Total weight was approximately 4500 pounds when you figure in the weight of the trailer. I have the Dakar 10 leaf pack on my truck and it was significantly lower in the rear. 20181110_145920.jpg 20181106_145405.jpg 20181107_090937.jpg 20181110_100033.jpg

It looks like some of you guys have bigger TT. I am looking at some around 4300 dry. I don't plan traveling with full tanks as we will be going to campgrounds with hook ups. Sounds like the trucks pull well. I have a basically stock 2012 auto DCSB sport.

Any suggestion on upgrades? I plan on doing sway control. Do I need air bags or another spring on the back?

My hope is to stay under 5500 for GVW.

OP...I am towing around 5500 - 6000# when loaded for a long trip, no liquid in tanks. I have airbags and OME leaf packs and it tows great. Although I think just the air bags will be ok.

Thanks, do you use a WDH or just the air bags?

I also use a WDH with sway control. The set up is great, it allows for a comfortable and stable ride

Tacoma's will easily pull a 40 ft trailer.

I had a '12 SR5 4x4 double cab 4.0 and regularly pulled a Apex 19' bunkhouse with single axle. Use WDH. Trailer unloaded is about 3500# and can hold a couple thousand pounds as it has bigger axle on the trailer (small trailers usually come with a 3500# axle, so it weighs like 3100# and says it will hold about 400# this ain't good)
That truck did fine, WA to Moab, to Colorado, through the Rocky Mtns and back through WY and MT. I used a Bluetooth obd port reader and kept it about 3000 rpm at the most. 125k on it and the water pump. No problem! Gas mileage was 8 to 11. Tacoma's have such a small tank.
I'm interested in seeing how the 3.5 does this year.
That being said, I would keep any trailer choices at no more than 5k fully loaded and at 23' total length or thereabouts. Anything bigger you should get a full size truck.
I did put sumo springs on my new Tacoma this time.

Ride Rite airbags with onboard compressor, Trail Ridge towing mirrors, 28,000 gwv external transmission cooler, Roll n Lock bed cover.
That is your dry weight, before anything added all tanks empty and no gear or supplies. Your GVWR is 7,656.

I have just finished a 7 hour trip one way towing a small Forrest river Cherokee wolf pup with my 2018 Tacoma. Pulled great, 2500-3000rpm between 65-70 mph on average. A little wind blown from time to time but as long as the truck was leading all was fine. Very pleased with the trucks performance.

Which Wolf Pup do you have? I’m looking into getting one of the bunkhouse Wold Pups.

I have the 2016 Forrest river Cherokee wolf pup with bunks. Very easy but a bit small. Works great for us for I need a traveling hotel room, not a house...

Trying to figure out a tricky towing situation if a 16" ball mount will allow me to safely tow with the tailgate down. Can anyone shoot me a measurement on a 3rd gen Tacoma. looking for measurement taken with the tailgate down, the length from center of hitch pin hole to end of tailgate.

Is this a 26’? What’s the weight and how’s your gas mileage? I pull a 26’ Jayco at 4700 dry and get like 6-7 mpg highway in the Florida summer heat. I have an 09 Tacoma that just hit 100k

I sat behind a rig today with a 16’ wolf pup I rented and was able to keep it in OD at 1900rpms. As soon as I pull away I’m at close to 3k
