I fell in love with 4WD trail work in 1976 when I purchased a 1973 FJ43 in Saudi Arabia that had been rolled (I worked there for 5 years). Bought it dirt cheap with 40K kilometers. It was one of the forest green models and when I purchased it had no top, no doors, no hood and no windshield since all had been destroyed in the rollover. In Saudi junkyards found doors, windshield frame with replaced glass and a hood. Drove that vehicle on and off road until a main bearing spun after 3 years of fun.

Then purchased a 1978 FJ43 in desert tan ragtop and drove if for the last two years in Arabia. Ranged mainly in the Eastern Province on sand, gravel plains and the horrible subka flats and near quicksand in areas near the Persian Gulf. Made a number of trips to Saudi's Western province. Great vehicles for the conditions at that time but really punishing in summer with no AC and very limited top speed on asphalt.

Have owned 1983 HiLux, 1997 Tacoma Xtracab, a 2000 Tacoma Xtracab and currently a 2000 Tacoma SR5 Xtracab that has been heavily modified for trail work by the prior owner.

Most of my offroad experience has been in the 4 corners area, San Rafael Swell and around Death Valley.

I have a lot to learn and want to improve my current vehicle to be more capable and a little less hairy to drive on mild rock crawling terrain and difficult trails.

Thanks so much for offering suggestions and advice.

I predated the Adolescent Saudi Stunt Era (+clowns). The most common rollovers were avoiding head on collisions with Mercedes short-bonnet diesel trucks who often were in the wrong lane on blind hills.

This was my first truck before I had sourced replacement doors. As a bonus qty 2, RM370 Suzukis would fit in the back with the passenger side seat folded down. Pretty slick.
